The Sharks closed-out their best-of-seven semifinals series against Nashville with an exclamation point in a 5-0 shutout in Game 7 as heavy -173 home favorites. The total ended as a PUSH after going OVER in four of the first six games of this matchup. San Jose got past Los Angeles with a 4-1 series win in the opening round of the playoffs and the total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in 10 of 12 postseason games.

Just about all of San Jose's big guns flexed their muscles in Thursday night's Game 7 win. Joe Pavelski put the Sharks on the board first on a power play goal midway through the first period and Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau capped-off the scoring with a pair of goals in the closing period. To help seal the win, goalie Martin Jones stopped all 20 of the shots he faced. Heading into this series, the Sharks have scored three or more goals in nine of their first 12 playoff games and Jones has gone the distance in goal with a solid 2.16 goals-against average.

St. Louis also faced a Game 7 test against Dallas in the conference semifinals this past Wednesday and it passed with flying colors in a 6-1 romp as a slight -107 road favorite. The total went OVER in that game after ending as a PUSH in the previous three games of that series. It also took the Blues the full seven games to get past Chicago in the opening round and the total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in 12 of their 14 playoff games.

The hot hand for St. Louis through two grueling series has been right winger Vladimir Tarasenko with seven goals and six assists, but this roster has been deep in scoring with seven other players posting at least three goals. Much of the Blues' success in getting to the conference finals should be attributed to the play of Brian Elliott in goal. In 14 games, he has a GAA of 2.39 to go along with a .929 save percentage.

San Jose Sharks at St. Louis Blues Prediction

Both of these teams have proven that they can win under pressure and they have also demonstrated the ability score goals in bunches when they have to. I like St. Louis as a home favorite in the series opener, but I am betting on the total going OVER the current five-goal line.
