Pittsburgh vs. Tamp Bay Game 3 Overview

<p>
Pittsburgh needed a clutch goal in overtime from its best player to tie this series at a game apiece. Sidney Crosby scored the game-winner to give his team a 3-2 victory on Monday night with the Penguins closing as heavy -207 home favorites. The total ended as a PUSH and it has now stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in six of their last seven games. Pittsburgh will go on the road where it is 3-2 in five previous playoff games.

<p>
Credit Crosby with winning the game on Monday night in the opening minute of the first overtime period, but Pittsburgh also got a huge effort from Matt Cullen and Phil Kessel with a pair of first-period goals to set the early tone for the win. Goalie Matt Murray quickly relinquished that lead by allowing a pair of goals in that hectic opening stanza, but he stood tall from there by stopping the rest of the shots he faced.

<p>
Tampa Bay blew a golden opportunity to take control of this series with a pair of road wins after coming away with a 3-1 victory as a +161 underdog in Game 1. The Lightning closed as +186 underdogs in Game 2 and the total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in five of their last six games. They will return to Amalie Arena with a 5-1 record in six previous postseason games on their home ice.
</p>
<p>
You have to credit Tampa Bay for tying things up in the first period of Game 2 on goals by Anton Stralman and Jonathan Drouin, but its big guns were held in check for the rest of the night. Nikita Kucherov leads the team with nine postseason goals, but he has failed to score in the first two games of this series. Andrei Vasilevskiy got the call in goal for an injured Ben Bishop and other than the shaky start he played rather well; turning away 38 of the 41 shots he faced. Tampa Bay is going to have to pick things up at the other end of the ice after being held to just 21 shots of its own.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Tampa Bay Lightning Game 3 Prediction

That was a big win for Pittsburgh on Monday night, but I like the Lightning's chances to hold on to their early home-ice advantage in this series with a win on Wednesday night. Vasilevskiy looked pretty good in goal despite the loss, and I expect a much better effort from Tampa Bay's sharpshooters in front of the home-town crowd.
