Point Spread: Giants -4.5
Total: 46.5

Washington fell to 0-2 with a tough 27-23 loss to Dallas last Sunday. New York’s defense led the way in a 16-13 win over New Orleans last week.

<p>
The Redskins’ offense is producing yards but their inability to capitalize in the red zone is holding them back. They rank 28th in the league in producing TDs in the red zone and QB Kirk Cousins hasn’t helped with some bad decisions in close. He has thrown 3 INTs and all of them have hurt the team. His poor decision-making has devastated the team on the field and some teammates are openly grousing about his performance. There is talent in abundance at the wideout position but the Giants’ secondary is solid and the defense as a whole is vastly improved. They have yet to produce a TO but have yielded only 2 TDs over the first 2 games. RB Matt Jones has only 20 carries on the year but has been productive when given the opportunity. He should see more touches this week but the NY defense is yielding 3.3 ypc and only 71 ypg on the ground.

The Giants have also moved the ball on offense but are struggling to finish. QB Eli Manning is spreading the ball around nicely (6 players with 6+ receptions) and has committed only 2 TOs (a pick and a lost fumble). Rookie WR Sterling Shepard is off to a fast start and he should do well against this defense. The matchup everybody will be watching is CB Josh Norman vs. WR Odell Beckham Jr. Even if Norman wins that matchup, Manning can throw to Shepard or a revitalized WR Victor Cruz (8-125-1 on the year). The Giants haven’t had as much success running the ball (3.2 ypc) but run the ball enough so that the Redskins can’t sell out against the pass. Washington has surrendered 5 rushing TDs already and 249 yards on the ground.

The public appears to be leaning slightly to the home Giants to cover the 4.5 point spread with 54% confidence while the over/under bettors are pretty much an even split with only 53% thinking this game will go over the posted total of 46.5.

Washington Redskins at New York Giants Prediction

The Redskins appear to be reeling right now while New York’s big offseason investment on the defensive side of ball appears to be paying off. They shut down the Saints last week, a team that gauged them for 608 yards and 7 TDs only a season ago. Manning is playing well and he won’t force the action Beckham Jr.s way if he isn’t open. I look for the Giants to get a big win at home this week and move to 3-0 on the year.
