Washington lost an elimination game 38-14 with Dallas last Thursday. Los Angeles won their 3rd-straight game last Sunday, a 19-10 decision over winless Cleveland.

The Redskins offense is missing several key players and it finally caught up with them last week. Rookie RB Samaje Perine is the lead back now but is averaging less than 4.0 ypc and was held to 38 yards last week. The Chargers have had trouble defending the run all year but held the Browns to 89 yards. QB Kirk Cousins had 3 TOs against the Cowboys and has now committed 13 on the year. He has also been sacked 35 times and an undermanned o-line must now deal with the vaunted pass rush of Los Angeles. DE Joey Bosa has 11.5 sacks while fellow DE Melvin Ingram has 8.5. As a team the Chargers have gotten to opposing QBs 35 times and they should get to Cousins in this game (he has been sacked 10 times over the past 2 games). WR Jamison Crowder is the one consistently productive receiver and he will draw lots of attention from the defense. WR Josh Doctson has gotten more time in recent games and has made some plays. LA has played the pass well in 2017 so Cousins will have to be sharp to move the ball down the field through the air.

The Chargers offense has been riding the right arm of QB Philip Rivers to great success. He has been beset by interceptions in past years but has thrown only 7 this year. He threw for 344 yards against the Browns and has 22 TD passes on the year. While the Redskins limited Dallas to only 93 yards last week (in part because the Cowboys rushed for 182 yards) they were giving up an average of 236.6 ypg through the air before that contest. They have also given up 20 TD passes. WR Keenan Allen had another huge game last week (10-105-1) and set an NFL record by becoming the first player to catch 10+ passes, 100+ yards and 1+ TD catches in 3-straight games. TE Hunter Henry has also become integral in the passing game and he should find room down the middle of the field and in the red zone. Rivers has been sacked 13 times in 2017 while Washington has 29 sacks on the year. RB Melvin Gordon and the running game are below average this season but they do enough to keep the defense from overplaying the pass.

Washington Redskins at Los Angeles Chargers Free Pick

Los Angeles is tied for the division lead and still plays Oakland and Kansas City in the next few weeks. They have to win this game and I see them doing it. The Redskins have been eliminated from the NFC playoff race and with 15 players on IR are struggling to put a competitive team on the field. Cousins has had some big games this year but I think he will be harassed by the pass rush and have trouble with a secondary that has more picks (15) than TD passes (13) allowed. The number is less than a converted TD and I think the Chargers can handle a beleaguered Washington squad with little to play for.
