The NFC West appears to be up for grabs this season adding even more importance to Sunday night’s divisional clash between the 4-1 Seattle Seahawks and the 3-3 Arizona Cardinals. Game time from U of Phoenix Stadium is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on NBC.

Seattle at Arizona Game Overview

The Seahawks are off to a 4-1 straight-up start that has them leading the NFC West by two games, but they are just 2-3 against the spread after failing to cover in last week’s 26-24 victory against Atlanta as 6.5-point favorites at home. The total went OVER 45.5 points in that game and it has gone OVER in their last three games. Seattle comes into this game with a 7-2 SU record in its last nine road games.

While their record may indicate a fast start to the season, the Seahawks have not been the dominant force that everyone expected as the favorites to win the NFC this season. They have struggled to run the ball behind Christine Michael and a banged-up Russell Wilson is still struggling with a knee injury from earlier in the year. The one constant has been a shutdown defense that is ranked first in the NFL in yards allowed and third in scoring with a points-allowed average of 15.6 points.

Arizona took a positive step towards getting back on track from an unexpected slow start with back-to-back victories against San Francisco on the road and the New York Jets at home in its last two games. The Cardinals are now an even 3-3 on the year both SU and ATS. The total stayed UNDER 45.5 points in Monday night’s 28-3 win against the Jets and it has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in four of six games this season.

The Cardinals got a huge effort from running back David Johnson in this past Monday night’s win with 111 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 22 carries. Carson Palmer was back under center and while he did complete 23-of-34 attempts for 213 passing yards and a score, he was forced out of the game with a hamstring strain. The good news is that he is listed as probable for Sunday night. Arizona’s defense did its part to help secure that win and it is now fifth in the NFL in yards allowed (295.0) and sixth in points allowed (17.3)

Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals Prediction

Both teams are relying heavily on their defense to win games this year and while Seattle has been solid since Week 1, the Cardinals’ defense has picked up the pace over the past few weeks.

The past trends in this division tilt tend to favor a higher scoring game than expected when they meet in the desert, but I do not think that will be the case on Sunday night. The total line in this game is already set pretty low at 43.5 points, but I still think that the final score stays UNDER this number.
