Two teams trying to shake of a bad start face off against one another this Monday night when the 1-4 New York Jets square off against the 2-3 Arizona Cardinals. Game time from U of Phoenix Stadium is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

New York at Arizona Game Overview

The Jets posted a 10-6 straight-up record in 2015 which was their first winning season since 2019, but they have quickly reverted to their losing ways with a 1-4 start (both SU and against the spread) including a three-game losing streak heading into Monday’s matchup. New York has been outscored a combined 82-33 in losses to Kansas City and Pittsburgh on the road and Seattle at home. The total has gone OVER in three of its first five games.

While the numbers do not look all that bad with an average of 247.4 passing yards a game combined with a ground game that is averaging 104.4 yards, but the scoreboard tells a different story with just 18.4 points a game. Ryan Fitzpatrick has thrown for 1,267 yards and five scores and Matt Forte has added 341 yards running the ball, but a negative turnover ratio of -10 (which is the worst in the league) has not helped the cause. Defensively, New York is ranked 23rd in the league in points allowed (27.2) and 22nd in yards allowed (371.4).

Arizona started the season as one of the top favorites to win the NFC, but it has also stumbled out of the gate with a 2-3 record both SU and ATS. The Cardinals are coming off a 33-21 victory against San Francisco last Thursday night as 3.5-point road favorites in a game that went OVER the 43-point closing line. The total had stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in three of their first four contests. Arizona has won 19 of its last 25 games at home SU, but it is 1-4 ATS in its last five home games.

The good news for Monday night is that Carson Palmer has been listed as probable after missing time with a concussion. He has thrown for 1,150 yards and six touchdowns with 31 completions going to Larry Fitzgerald for 361 yards and five of those scores in what is still one of the most potent pass/catch combinations in the league. The biggest issue for the Cardinals has been a run defense that is allowing an average of 118.2 yards a game; however this unit is still ranked 10th in the NFL in points allowed (20.2).

The Jets are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a SU loss and they are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five road games. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six games on the road.

The Cardinals are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 games against a team with a SU losing record, but they have failed to cover in their last six Monday night games. The total has stayed UNDER in their last seven home games.

The road team in this inter-conference tilt has covered ATS in four of the last five meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in three of the last four games between the two.

New York Jets at Arizona Cardinals Prediction

This matchup could be just what the Cardinals need to start turning things around. New York’s current problems run deep on both sides of the ball, while the return of Palmer to the starting lineup should give Arizona a big boost on offense.

The extra half point on what opened as a touchdown spread is somewhat of a concern, but I still see the Cardinals playing to expectations to win this game both SU and ATS.
