Two teams looking for a fast start to the second half of a very disappointing season square off this Monday night on ESPN with the 1-7 New York Giants going on the road to face the 2-7 San Francisco 49ers. Game time from Levi’s Stadium is set for 8:15 p.m.

New York at San Francisco Overview

The Giants limped into last week's bye in the midst of a straight-up five-game losing streak while going 2-3 against the spread. The total stayed UNDER 44 points in a 20-13 loss to Washington on Oct. 28 as slight one-point home underdogs, and it has stayed UNDER in five of their first eight games. New York has gone 1-3 SU on the road this season, but it has been able to cover in three of those four road games.

Veteran quarterback Eli Manning has come under fire for the Giants’ slow start, but the problems with this team run far deeper than that. He has thrown for 2,377 yards and eight touchdowns on an offense that is ranked ninth in the league in passing yards. Despite the fact that the running game falls to 31st with just 77.9 yards per game, rookie running back Saquon Barkley remains one of the bright spots with 519 yards rushing and five touchdown runs.

San Francisco came into this season with very high expectations, but a rash of injuries starting with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has the 49ers riding out the string just nine games into the schedule. Last Thursday night, they blasted Oakland 34-3 as slight 1.5-point home underdogs in their best effort of the year. They are 3-6 ATS overall with a 1-3 record ATS in four previous home games. The total has stayed UNDER in six of San Francisco’s first nine games.

Rookie quarterback Nick Mullins gave the Levi’s Stadium crowd something to cheer about in the romp against the Raiders in his first NFL start. He completed 16 of his 22 passing attempts for 262 yards and three touchdowns. The 49ers added another 143 yards rushing led by Raheem Mostert’s 86 yards on seven carries. This effort sparked some life into an offense that is tied for 18th in the league in scoring with an average of 22.8 points per game. The defense slips to 24th in points allowed (26.6).

New York at San Francisco Prediction 11/12/2018

In a matchup between two teams that have basically forgotten how to win, it is hard to know which way to lean in this one. New York is well-rested coming off a bye, and the 49ers are playing at home coming off their best game of the year.

The Giants actually appear to be worse off given some level of team dissension over the quarterback position, while Mullins gives his team a ray of hope moving forward. Lay the three points and take San Francisco SU and ATS on Monday night.
