New England crushed Cincinnati 35-17 last Sunday. Pittsburgh was upset at Miami 30-15 last week.

The Patriots have been rolling since QB Tom Brady returned from suspension. He has a 6-0 TD/INT ratio and a QB rating of 135.5 He will face a defense this week that ranks 29th (293.7 ypg) in pass defense and 28th (395 ypg) in total defense. As good as Brady has been in targeting his receivers (especially TEs Martellus Bennett and Rob Gronkowski), the running game is contributing 120 ypg. This is a dangerous, two-pronged attack which should give the Steelers fits. ILB Ryan Shazier could return from injury this week but this defense, especially the secondary, has been victimized in recent years. Pittsburgh has 8 sacks in 6 games and if they can’t pressure Brady, they’ll be on the field a lot on Sunday.

Not only did the Steelers lose to the Dolphins last Sunday, they lost QB Ben Roethlisberger to a torn meniscus. He will miss this game and likely a few more. QB Landry Jones will start but he isn’t starter quality. WR Antonio Brown is one of the elite wideouts in the game but his productivity drops noticeably whenever Roethlisberger misses a game. Look for New England to devote plenty of attention his way but not at the expense of their run defense. RB Le’Veon Bell can expect to see 25+ touches in this contest both on the ground and through the air. The Patriots won’t sell out vs. the run but expect a few formations with 8 players in the box. The only chance Pittsburgh has in this game is if Bell has a monster afternoon. The Pats know this and look for DC Matt Patricia to game plan specifically to contain Bell.

This week the public is definitively on the Patriots to cover the point spread of 7 with over 80% confidence. The over/under bettors are split on which way they will be laying their total bets.

New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers Prediction

This is a bad week for the Steelers to have to face the Patriots. The absence of Big Ben will limit the offense and the defense is reeling after another blow-out loss on the road. New England is rolling and appears to be one of the top 2-3 teams in the league (again). NE is 8-2 SU and 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 matchups with Pittsburgh and I expect this game to hold true to form. With the line only a converted TD, I have no problem backing the visitor in this one.
