Minnesota had a bye last week. Philadelphia lost for the 2nd-straight week with a 27-20 loss to Washington last Sunday.

The Vikings have been unable to establish the run all season but strangely, it has improved since RB Adrian Peterson went down with a knee injury. RBs Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon are no Peterson but both have a higher ypc average. The Eagles had been holding opponents to 73 ypg on the ground until the Redskins gashed them for 230 last week. I don’t expect the Vikings’ ground game to go off in this contest but they will stick with it and could wear down the defense late in the game. QB Sam Bradford has a 6-0 TD/INT ratio in 2016 and has yet to turn the ball over. WR Stefon Diggs (groin) missed the last game but is hoping to play on Sunday. OC Norv Turner has designed an offense that lets Bradford get rid of the ball quickly as the o-line has had several injuries to deal with. Philadelphia has a much better pass rush now that they have converted to a 4-3 front and they could give the revamped o-line concerns.

The Eagles scored 6 offensive points last week (2 FGs) as Washington bottled them up all day. Rookie QB Carson Wentz’s play has dropped off as more game film of him exists and his weaknesses can be exploited. He hasn’t responded well to pressure and he’ll see lots of it this week. Minnesota is tied for the league lead with 19 sacks and has several players capable of finding their way to the QB. Wentz was sacked 5 times last week as the loss of RT Lane Johnson (suspension) has disrupted the line. The Vikings pass defense allows 210 ypg as QB Xavier Rhodes is evolving into a true shutdown corner. The Eagles had been doing a good job of running the ball before being kept in check by the Redskins. The Vikings have allowed 78 ypg and 3.7 ypc this season and I expect them to contain RB Ryan Mathews.

Public Money Consensus

This week’s matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the Philadelphia Eagles has the public flocking to the Vikings to cover the spread of 2.5 with over 80% on board. For the O/U bettors it looks like the play is the over 40 points and quite handily with over 80% of the money heading that way.

Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles Prediction

The Vikings are 5-0, the last remaining undefeated team in the league. The Eagles have dropped 2 straight after an impressive 3-0 start. Minnesota HC Mike Zimmer is a defensive veteran who will have watched film of Philadelphia’s last 2 games and should be able to establish a game plan to make Wentz uncomfortable. Both teams have had success on kick returns but Vikings PR Marcus Sherels (2 TDs) and KR Cordarrelle Patterson are especially dangerous. With the Vikings ascending and the Eagles descending, I feel comfortable laying less than a FG in this one.
