Minnesota at Los Angeles Game Overvie

Minnesota was one of the top favorites to win the NFC this season after getting all the way to the conference title game in last year’s playoffs. Anyone still on that bandwagon following the Vikings' surprising 1-1-1 start straight-up with a 1-2 record against the spread has to be stunned with this recent turn of events. Sunday's embarrassing 27-6 loss to Buffalo as heavy 16.5-point home favorites is beyond cause for concern.

The loss to the lowly Bills was actually worse than the final score indicated. The Kirk Cousins’ experiment as Minnesota’s new franchise quarterback has been drawn into question after his performance in that loss. He posted one meaningless touchdown throw against one costly interception and four sacks. He also fumbled the ball three times to cause two more turnovers. When you run the ball six times for 14 yards, there are some issues on offense that need to be resolved.

The Rams are the shining stars of the NFC at 3-0 both SU and ATS. They have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 102-36 in a road win against Oakland followed by victories at home against Arizona and the neighboring Los Angeles Chargers. The total went OVER 49 points in Sunday’s 35-23 victory against the Chargers as seven-point favorites after staying UNDER in their first two games.

Behind Jared Goff throwing the ball and Todd Gurley running it, the Rams have operated like a well-oiled machine on offense. Goff has completed 71 of his 101 passing attempts for 941 yards and six touchdowns in his first three games. Gurley has run the ball 62 times for 255 yards and four scores. Brandin Cooks has made an early impact in the passing game with 19 receptions for a team-high 336 receiving yards. Defensively, Los Angeles is ranked first in the league in average points allowed (12.0).

Minnesota at Los Angeles Prediction 09/27/2018

The Vikings are a far better team than the one that took the field at home last Sunday, but a lopsided loss to possibly the worst team in the league cannot be overlooked. Putting aside just how well the Rams have played in the first three weeks, it is hard to see how Minnesota can correct its issues in a short week against the NFC’s top team.

With the half-point on the current spread favoring the home team, I am going to lay the 6.5 points and take Los Angeles both SU and ATS in Thursday night's contest.
