Los Angeles at San Francisco Overview

The Rams ran all over Indianapolis 46-9 on opening day as 3.5-point home favorites, but they came crashing back to reality this past Sunday in a 27-20 loss to Washington as three-point favorites at home. The total went way OVER the 42-point closing line in Week 1 before ending as a PUSH in Sunday’s loss. Los Angeles will open this season’s road schedule with a straight-up 3-5 record in last year’s eight road games. The total stayed UNDER in three of its last four games on the road.

Jared Goff got is sophomore season as the Rams’ starting quarterback off to a solid start against the Colts with 306 yards passing while completing 21 of his 29 attempts. He put the ball up 25 times against the Redskins and he completed 15 passes for 224 yards. Todd Gurley has looked good running the ball with 128 yard and two touchdowns on 35 carries, but overall the Rams are ranked 23rd in the NFL in rushing yards through the first two weeks.

San Francisco only won two games last season SU, but both victories just so happened to come against the Rams. The 49ers are off to a predictable SU 0-2 start this season with losses to Carolina at home and Seattle on the road. While they were never in the game in a 23-3 loss to the Panthers as four-point underdogs, they did play the Seahawks tough in a 12-9 loss as heavy 13.5-point underdogs. The total stayed well UNDER the closing line in both contests.

Brian Hoyer has been under center for San Francisco in the first two games and he has completed 39 of his 62 attempts for 292 yards. He has tossed two interceptions and he has been sacked six times. Pierre Garson and Carlos Hyde have been the top two targets with nine receptions each and Hyde also leads the team in rushing with 169 yards on 24 carries. Kicker Robbie Gould has accounted for all the team’s scoring with four field goals.

Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers Week 3 Prediction

The Rams have had their troubles against San Francisco in recent years, but I would still give Los Angeles a significant edge in Thursday night’s matchup given the 49ers’ issues on offense. That being said, my ‘best bet’ pick for this game is the UNDER on 5Dimes’ current 40-point total line. That is a very generous number in light of the matchup on the field.
