Kansas City at New England Game Overview

Kansas City won the AFC West last season with a straight-up record of 12-4 (9-7 against the spread), but its season came to an end with tough two-point loss to Pittsburgh in the playoffs. The Chiefs closed out the regular season on a 5-1 run both SU and ATS including three victories (SU and ATS) on the road. The total stayed UNDER in 10 of their 16 regular season games in 2016.

Veteran quarterback Alex Smith continues to run a Kansas City offense that was ranked 19th in the NFL last season in total passing yards. Its running game was ranked 15th and the loss of Spencer Ware for the season with a knee injury leaves a big void in the backfield. The Chiefs are going to have to hope that their defense can pick up from where it left off in 2016 as one of the best units in the league in points allowed (19.4).

Everyone expected New England to win last year’s Super Bowl following a dominating SU 14-2 (13-3 ATS) record in the regular season. However, it still took one of the greatest come-from-behind victories in NFL history against the Atlanta Falcons to secure another world title. Some people might call the Patriots lucky with that win, but they are right back at the top of the NFL futures list to win Super Bowl LII this season.

Tom Brady is ready to go at quarterback, but he will not have his favorite receiver in Thursday’s lineup after Julian Edelman was lost for the season with a knee injury. Tight end Rob Gronkowski is healthy and ready to go as is Mike Gillislee as the team’s featured back in the running game. Defense could be the name of the game for New England on Thursday night after leading the NFL in points allowed (15.6) last season.

Kansas City at New England Week 1 Prediction

It would be tough to go against New England on any occasion at home let alone a prime time Thursday night slot as the defending Super Bowl Champions. Some key losses on both team’s offense combined with a pair of defenses that know how to keep opposing teams out of the end zone sets up a golden opportunity to bet the UNDER in this game on the current 48-point total line.
