Point Spread: Cincinnati -10.5

Indianapolis was shut out 27-0 at home by Jacksonville last week. Cincinnati couldn’t stay with Pittsburgh in a 29-14 loss last Sunday.

Colts QB Jacoby Brissett has had some nice moments in 2017 but he has lacked any semblance of consistency and has a QB rating under 80. He has only 3 passing TDs on the year and has committed 4 TOs. The Bengals pass defense allows 177.7 ypg and it will be a tough chore for Brissett to put up big numbers this week. WR T.Y. Hilton had big games in Indy’s 2 wins but has only 13 catches in their 5 losses. Indianapolis has yielded 29 sacks on the season and Brissett has frequently been running for his life. RB Frank Gore is averaging a mere 3.4 ypc as the beleaguered and reshuffled o-line has had issues in both phases of the offense. Rookie RB Marlon Mack sports a 4.9 ypc average and may be in line for more touches. Cincinnati’s run defense has been decent in 2017 and they should be able to contain Gore and Mack.

The Bengals offense is averaging 22 ppg since Bill Lazor took over as OC. They scored just 9 points in their first 2 games before his promotion. QB Andy Dalton has played better of late but has still committed 10 TOs on the year (8 picks, 2 lost fumbles). The Colts give up an average of 301 passing ypg so look for the redhead to have a big day this Sunday. WR A.J. Green is having his best season to date but could use some help from the team’s other receivers. Rookie FS Malik Hooker was leading the defense with 3 interceptions but has been lost for the season due to a torn ACL. Dalton has been sacked 19 times on the year while the Indy defense has amassed 13 sacks in 7 games. Rookie RB Joe Mixon has assumed the lead back role but saw his carries limited last week as the running game was abandoned too early. Don’t look for the coaching staff to make that mistake again as Indianapolis has had trouble defending the run for several years now.

Indianapolis Colts at Cincinnati Bengals Week 8 ATS Pick

Four of the Colts losses this season have been by 37, 28, 14 and 27 points as they rarely have been competitive. Their only 2 wins have come against the remaining 2 winless teams in the NFL (CLE, SF). Cincinnati still has playoff aspirations but they need to win this game before embarking on a 3-game road trip. Indianapolis is dealing with several injuries and there also appears to be dissension in the locker room. While the number is big, I feel the Bengals can get well in a huge way this week against an undermanned and uninspired team.
