The 4-1 Denver Broncos will look to keep pace in the AFC West Division race when they square off against the rival 1-4 San Diego Chargers this Thursday night at Qualcomm Stadium. Game time for this division clash has been set for 8:25 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

Denver at San Diego Game Overview

Denver was the last team in the AFC with a perfect start to the new season, but its four-game winning streak both straight-up and against the spread came to an end this past Sunday in a 23-16 loss to Atlanta as a 3.5-point home favorite. The total stayed UNDER 44.5 points in that game and it has now stayed UNDER in the Broncos’ last two games after going OVER in their first three outings this year.

The quarterback position was a big question mark for Denver heading into this season, but second-year signal caller Trevor Siemian has done a good job at filling that void when healthy. Rookie Paxton Lynch got the call against Atlanta and while he did complete 23-of-35 attempts for 223 yards and a score, he was also intercepted once and sacked six times. Siemian’s playing status for Thursday night is listed as day-to-day.

San Diego continues to slip down the standings in the AFC West with three-straight losses. It is now 1-4 SU with a 3-2 record ATS after covering as a 3.5-point road underdog in Sunday’s 34-31 loss to Oakland. The total went well OVER the closing 50.5-point line in that game and it has gone OVER in four of five games this season.

Head coach Mike McCoy can officially be considered on the hot seat following another game in which his team blew a late lead. Two weeks ago against New Orleans, he watched his team meltdown in a 35-34 loss as a 3.5-point favorite at home. One of the biggest problems has been turnovers and heading into this game the Chargers’ 11 giveaways are tied for the second-most in the league. Another issue is a defense that is ranked 27th in the NFL in points allowed (28.4).

Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers Prediction

Denver’s offense did take a step backwards without Siemian under center and Atlanta was able to move the ball on its vaunted defense on the ground with a 122 rushing yards in Sunday’s loss. None the less, the Broncos are still one of the best teams in the NFL playing a team that has basically forgotten how to win games.

While you never like to give points on the road in a division matchup, I am looking for the Broncos to quickly bounce back with a much better effort this Thursday night in this prime time matchup to win and cover the three-point spread.
