49ers Showcase Strong Defense

The 49ers are not an easy team to beat this season, as they spoiled the Seattle Seahawks chances of the clinching a playoff spot in Week 15 when they won 26-23 in overtime. This is quite shocking considering the 49ers are now on their third-string quarterback, but Nick Mullens is playing fearless and has risen up to the challenge. Mullens has taken advantage of his opportunity in San Francisco and had really made a name for himself. Despite all of the injuries, the 49ers have seen very productive seasons out of TE George Kittle, RB Matt Breida, and a recent uptick in production from rookie WR Dante Pettis. Kittle is really having a tremendous season, leading the team with 72 receptions, 1,154 yards, and 4 TDs. Expect Kittle and the Philadelphia Eagle's Zach Ertz to lead NFC Pro Bowl voting for the tight end position.

Chicago Coming in Off Satisfying Win vs. Packers

Chicago got their revenge against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers last week, eliminating any chances of seeing the Packers in the playoffs this year. We all remember Rodger's heroic return from injury in the second half of the Bears and Packers first go-around back in Week 1 when Rodgers put the team on his back and carried them to victory. In their 24-17 Week 15 victory, Mitch Trubisky played a very clean game not turning the ball over once. Trubisky finished the afternoon completing 20-of-28 pass attempts for 235 yards and 2 TDs. Jordan Howard was able to find the end zone this week, as well as Tarik Cohen who continues to prove to be a very lethal weapon. Cohen contributes in not only the run game, but also the receiving game and special teams.

The Bears rely less on the offense, and more on one of the league's most dominant defenses. Khalil Mack was able to get to Rodgers for 2.5 sacks, while Leonard Floyd also contributed a pair of sacks. The game was clinched in the fourth quarter when rookie LB Roquan Smith tipped the ball in the air to FS Eddie Jackson. That was Jackson's sixth interception on the season, making a strong case for a Pro Bowl appearance this season. Jackson was hurt on the play, with what is being reported as a sprained ankle that isn't expected to end his season. Jackson is critical to the Bears defense, as they'll really need him come playoff time. This is a tough injury however after the Bears placed CB Bryce Callahan on the IR with a broken left foot.

Bears vs. 49ers Prediction 12/23/2018

This could end up being a very competitive game between two of the better play calling head coaches in the league between, Kyle Shanahan and Matt Nagy. The Bears are 3-3 on the road this season, while the 49ers are 4-3 when playing at home. Given the recent success of the Bears defense against offenses like the Rams and the Packers, we expect them to hold up well against a Nick Mullens led offense.
