Carolina at Pittsburgh Game Overview

Carolina has been able to stay one game off the pace set by the red-hot New Orleans Saints in the NFC South with a three-game winning streak both straight-up and against the spread. The total went OVER 55.5 points in Sunday’s wild 42-28 home victory against Tampa Bay as a six-point favorite. It also went OVER in the Panthers’ 36-21 win at home against Baltimore on Oct. 28 as slight 2.5-point underdogs. Carolina is 1-2 ATS on the road this season with the total staying UNDER in two of the three games.

The Panthers have been able to close a huge deficit to get a win, but against Tampa Bay, they almost blew a big lead before putting the game away. After taking a 35-14 lead into halftime, they held off the Bucs in the final two quarters. Cam Newton has thrown for 1,893 yards and 15 touchdowns on a Carolina offense that is ranked 22nd in the NFL in average passing yards. This unit has done most of its damage on the ground with an average of 143.9 rushing yards per game.

Pittsburgh has once again established itself as the team to beat in the AFC North with Sunday’s 23-16 road win against Baltimore as a slight 1.5-point underdog. This followed victories against Cleveland at home and Cincinnati on the road both SU and ATS. The Steelers have covered ATS in five of their last six games with the total staying UNDER in three of their previous five outings.

Ben Roethlisberger took a hard hit in Sunday’s win that briefly sent him to the sideline, but he quickly returned to the lineup to end the day with 270 yards passing and two touchdown throws. He completed 28 of his 47 passing attempts, including seven to JuJu Smith-Shuster for 78 yards. James Conner continues to impress with 107 yards rushing and 56 yards receiving to help pace the win.

Carolina at Pittsburgh Prediction 11/08/2018

Carolina continues to find ways to win games despite a few slow starts and some sloppy play on defense. The biggest plus has been the ability to put points on the board when it needed them the most. Pittsburgh is finally living up to expectations during its current four-game winning streak (SU and ATS). Playing this game at home should keep that momentum rolling right along.

Give the Panthers credit for their play in the first half of the season, but I see them struggling to keep pace on Thursday night. The OVER on the total line is a solid play, but I think Pittsburgh ATS is the ‘best bet’ pick in this one.
