Atlanta at Tampa Bay Game Overview

The Falcons are coming off a season-saving 20-17 victory against New Orleans last Thursday night as 2.5-point home favorites to remain a game off the pace in this heated division race heading into this week’s action. They have been able to cover in four of their last five games to improve to 6-7 against the spread in a record that includes a 2-4 run ATS on the road this season. The total stayed UNDER 51.5 points against the Saints and it has stayed UNDER in four of Atlanta’s last six games.

You can chalk up that must-win effort against New Orleans to veteran quarterback Matt Ryan on offense and the elevated play of a Falcons’ defense that is ninth in the league in points allowed (20.1). Despite the fact that Ryan tossed three interceptions against one touchdown pass in that game, he remained resilient enough to make the plays when he had to including a key fourth quarter scoring drive to give his team the lead with less than four minutes to play.

Tampa Bay came up short again in Sunday’s 24-21 loss to Detroit at home in a game that closed as a PICK. This was its third loss in a row both SU and ATS as part of an overall record of 3-9-1 ATS. The total stayed UNDER 47.5 points in the loss to the Lions after going OVER in the Buccaneers’ previous three contests. They remain at home on Monday night with a 2-4 record ATS through their first six home games this season.

Jameis Winston has put up some big numbers this season despite his shoulder issues as part of Tampa Bay’s sixth-ranked passing offense, but this unit is still ranked 21st in the NFL in scoring with 20.3 points per game. Winston continues to do a good job at spreading the ball around with at least one completion to 11 different players last Sunday, but the end result was still another notch in the loss column. On defense, the Bucs are also well down the list in points allowed; giving up an average of 24.0 PPG.

Atlanta at Tampa Bay Free Game Prediction

This game opened with Atlanta favored by six points and that betting line has held firm as the week has worn on. I still see that spread widening a bit as we get closer to kickoff given the importance of this game to the Falcons’ postseason plans. Given what is on the line along with the current form between these two division rivals, I would have to believe that Atlanta wins this game by at least seven points.
