Atlanta continued their winning ways with a 43-28 win at Tampa Bay last week. Philadelphia lost for the 4th time in 5 games with a 28-23 defeat to the Giants on Sunday.

<p>
The Falcons are averaging 34 ppg as QB Matt Ryan is performing at an MVP level. He has a 23-4 TD/INT ratio and is completing 70% of his pass attempts. Philadelphia’s defense has allowed 27 ppg in their losses as they have had trouble containing upper-echelon QBs. WR Julio Jones is having a huge year (51-970-5) but faces a defense that is yielding only 218.4 passing ypg. However, the Falcons have many weapons in the passing game as evidenced by 7 players with 14+ receptions. While Jones will get his fair amount of targets, look for WR Mohamed Sanu, TE Jacob Tamme and others to get their share of work also. RB Tevin Coleman (hamstring) missed the Buccaneers game and is questionable this week. RB Devonta Freeman is 3rd on the team with 28 catches and is also the team’s leading rusher (620 yards, 4.7 ypc). Philly allows 107 ypg on the ground and 4.4 ypc. I expect them to have their work cut out for them as they have to deal with a passing game and running game that are equally effective.

The Eagles started 3-0 behind the strong play of rookie QB Carson Wentz. His play has tapered off as more film of him is out there. His interceptions have gone up and his accuracy has gone down over the past 5 weeks with predictable results. He has been sacked 17 times and fumbled the ball 8 times (only losing 1) as he has had trouble dealing with pressure. Atlanta had a league-low 19 sacks last season but already have 21 in 2016. Look for them to ramp up the pressure on Wentz to force him into quick throws. WR Jordan Matthews leads the club with 42 catches, 507 yards and 3 TDs and he will be the main focus of the Falcons pass defense. They give up a lot of yards (290 per game) and passing TDs (23) but this clearly isn’t an elite passing offense they are facing this week. Diminutive RB Darren Sproles received the bulk of the carries last week and is a dual threat out of the backfield.

Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles Prediction

The Falcons are playing very well right now, especially on offense. In wins over Green Bay and Tampa Bay over the past 2 weeks, they have put up 76 points. Ryan is playing at a very high level compared to Wentz and I expect his play to be the difference in this outcome. With the spread being only 1 point, I see Atlanta improving to 5-1 on the road this season.
