Atlanta at Philadelphia Game Overview

The Falcons took their first successful step towards a return trip to the Super Bowl with a stunning 26-13 upset against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday as six-point road underdogs. The total stayed UNDER the closing 48-point line and it has stayed UNDER in their last six games. Atlanta is now 6-3 straight-up in nine road games this season, but it falls to 3-6 against the spread on the road. The total has stayed UNDER in four of its last five road games.

Matt Ryan led a passing attack that accounted for 218 yards and Devonta Freeman rushed for another 66 yards on 18 carries, but it was the Falcons’ defense that deserves most of the credit for Saturday’s upset after holding the Rams to just one touchdown on a Jared Goff scoring throw. Overall, Atlanta was eighth in the NFL in total yards gained and it averaged 22.1 points per game. Defensively, the Falcons were also ranked eighth in the league in points allowed (19.7).

Philadelphia earned the No. 1 seed in the conference with a straight-up record of 13-3, but it closed out the regular season just 1-3 ATS over its final four games as part of an overall record of 10-6 ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in six of the Eagles last nine games and in four of their last five home games. They went 7-1 SU at home this season with a 5-3 record ATS. Philadelphia was an even 2-2 ATS in four games closing as an underdog.

The only reason why the Eagles are underdogs in this game is because of a huge question mark at the quarterback position. Carson Wentz was lost for the season with a torn ACL and in three starts as his backup, Nick Foles has lacked the consistency and playmaking ability that made Wentz a legitimate MVP candidate. To get past the Falcons this Saturday, Philadelphia is going to have to rely heavily on a ground game that was ranked third in the NFL in yards as well as on a defense that was fourth in both yards (306.5) and points (18.4) allowed.

Atlanta at Philadelphia Free Game Prediction

Atlanta has some solid momentum heading into this game with the way it handled the Rams, but Philadelphia is still well rested and healthy coming off a bye with the luxury of playing this game at one of the most hostile places in the NFL for visiting teams. Not to diminish what Wentz ment to this team, the Eagles are still one of the most balanced teams in the league across every phase of the game. I may be going way out on a limb in this ‘best bet’ pick, but I will take the three points and the home team in this one.
