Arizona blasted Tampa Bay 40-7 last Sunday. Buffalo lost a scoring fest to the Jets 37-31 last Thursday.

The Cardinals totaled over 400 yards of offense last week and should do well in this contest. They have 4 capable wideouts while the Bills allowed 319 total receiving yards to WRs Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Quincy Enunwa. QB Carson Palmer is completing more than 60% of his passes and has a 5-0 TD/INT ratio after 2 games. Buffalo’s run defense may be a little better than their pass defense right now but they aren’t impregnable. RB David Johnson is a dangerous back, both on the ground and through the air (98 receiving yards last week). The Bills defense was very good before HC Rex Ryan switched them to a 3-4 front, a scheme that doesn’t suit the talents of the players. I expect Arizona to have several sustained drives to keep the defense on the field for most of the game.

Buffalo scored 31 points last week and then fired OC Greg Roman, a move that reeks of desperation. The Bills want to run the ball but are averaging less than 3.5 ypc after 2 games. The Cardinals have a fairly stout run defense and I expect them to keep RB LeSean McCoy and Co. at bay. QB Tyrod Taylor threw for only 111 yards in a Week 1 loss to the Ravens but nearly tripled that in a 297-yard performance against New York. He was helped by 84 and 71-yard TD bombs but he is a big concern for the Arizona defense. He is the offense’s most dynamic player and can make plays with his feet as well. WR Sammy Watkins is still dealing with a lingering foot injury and while he says he is good to go, he’s nowhere near 100%.

It appears that the public money this week in this match-up is heavily favoring the Arizona Cardinals at 80% to cover the 4 point spread. The total bettors are leaning towards this game going over 47 with 56% confidence.

Arizona Cardinals at Buffalo Bills Prediction

Arizona is clearly the better team but will have some issues to deal with. They are travelling cross country (never easy for west coast teams) for an early Sunday game and have to deal with a very mobile QB. The Bills did score 31 points last week against a decent defense but I expect the Cards to be ready. I don’t see WRs Marquise Goodwin and Greg Salas hauling in 70+ yard TD receptions again and Watkins will have a very tough test in CB Patrick Peterson. The Cardinals have a very balanced offense but can burn teams with the passing game if they see a favorable matchup. I see the Arizona WRs having a big day against the Bills’ CBs and expect the visitor to get a cover on the road in this contest.
