An unbeaten Wake Forest team meets a one-loss Virginia outfit for an ACC inter-division bout Friday night in Charlottesville. Wake is coming off a convincing win over Florida State last week while the Cavaliers gave up 59 points and nearly 700 yards to North Carolina. UVA is favored by a point more than home-field advantage for this contest.

The Demon Deacons are 3-0 on the season after beating Florida State last week 35-14. Wake Forest scored the first 14 points of the game, let the Seminoles get within 14-7, then scored the following 10 points and led 27-14 at the half. The Deacons then scored the only eight points of the second half to secure the victory and the cover as 4.5-point favorites. Wake Forest out-gained Florida State 484-317, out-rushed the 'Noles 225-91, won the time of possession by a 39:21 split and got some serious help from FSU in the form of a couple of drive-extending penalties and six Seminoles turnovers. Wake opened this season with a 42-10 win over Old Dominion, just missing the cover as a 33-point favorite when it gave up a meaningless Monarchs touchdown with two minutes left. The Deacons then beat FCS Norfolk State 41-16 but came up short ATS at -43. Wake Forest returned 18 starters this season, nine on each side of the ball, from a team that played 4-5 last season. So the Deacons have an excellent chance at an upper-division finish in the ACC Atlantic this season. The Cavaliers, meanwhile, are 2-1 on the season after losing to North Carolina last week 59-39. Virginia gave up three long Tar Heels touchdown passes to fall behind 24-7, then rallied for three scores of its own to lead 28-24 at the half. But the Cavs then gave up the first 14 points of the second half and let things get away from there, on their way toward their first defeat of the season. Virginia also whiffed ATS as a 7.5-point dog. Last week, the Cavaliers produced 577 yards of total offense but gave up an alarming 699, including 392 on the ground. And you're not going to win many football games, giving up yardage like that. UVA opened its season with a 43-0 victory over FCS William & Mary, covering as a 31-point favorite. The Cavs then beat Illinois 42-14, covering at -10.5.

Wake Forest-Virginia Recent History

These teams may be conference rivals, but they've only met four times over the last 12 seasons. They did meet last year, though, a 40-23 Demon Deacons victory. That game was tied at 23-23 early in the fourth quarter before Wake scored the last 17 points and covered as a three-point favorite. Also, that game played over a total of 57.

The Under is 3-0 in Deacons games this season, which are averaging 53 total points. The Under is 2-1 in Cavaliers games this season; their first two games only averaged 49 total points, but last week's game against North Carolina blew past a total of 67. Free College Football Betting Pick Wake Forest is probably the better team in this match-up, and that Virginia defense is a bit too porous for our liking. Plus, the Deacons are getting four points. We'll take Wake here and won't be surprised if it wins this game outright.
