Tulane at Memphis Game Overview

While it still lost the game SU 34-28, Tulane gave South Florida all it could handle on Saturday as a 10.5-point home favorite. This was a much better showing than two weeks ago when it lost to Florida International 23-10 as a 12-point road favorite. Overall, the Green Wave are 3-4 straight-up with a 5-2 record against the spread. The total has gone OVER in three of their last five games.

To get past Memphis as double-digit road underdogs, the Green Wave will need another big effort from a ground game that is churning out an average of 266 yards per game, which is the 12th-highest total in the nation. They racked up 194 rushing yards in the loss to the Bulls with five different players running the ball. Dontrell Hilliard is the team’s leading rusher with 701 yards and nine touchdowns on 114 carries.

Memphis is 6-1 SU overall and at 3-1 in AAC play it holds a slight half-game lead over SMU in the West Division title race. Last Thursday night’s wild 42-38 road victory against Houston as one-point underdogs could have been the Tigers’ best effort this season after erasing a 17-point deficit in the second half to pick up the win. They are now 3-4 ATS with the total going OVER in five of their first seven games.

Riley Ferguson put the ball up 53 times against the Cougars and he completed 33 passes for 471 yards and one score. Tigers’ wide receiver Anthony Miller caught 10 passes for 178 yards, but the ground game was held to just 30 yards on 23 carries. Memphis is ranked 10th in the nation in passing with an average of 333.4 yards a game, but it falls all the way to 72nd in the country in average rushing yards (158.7).

Tulane Green Wave at Memphis Tigers Free Week 9 ATS Pick

I went against Memphis last Thursday night and paid the price. I also missed the obvious play on the OVER between two explosive scoring teams. Turning to this matchup, I am not going to make the same mistake twice in a row. While a play on the OVER in this game would probably make sense given the way that both teams have been able to put points on the board lately, I am going to lay the 10 points and take the Tigers to cover at home.
