The Red Raiders salvaged their season with back-to-back victories against Kansas State at home and Texas on the road as slight favorites in their final two games to post a straight-up 7-5 record on the year. They also went 7-5 against the spread after covering in their last three games and the total has gone OVER in four of their last five outings.

There is no doubt that Texas Tech knows how to move the ball downfield through the air and put points on the board with an average of 389.7 passing yards and 46.6 points a game. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes lit things up with 4,283 passing yards to post the third-highest total in the nation. He threw for 32 touchdowns against 14 interceptions while completing 65 percent of his 517 attempts. The Red Raiders just lost their second leading receiver Devin Lauderdale due to academic reasons, but that should not be an issue given the tremendous depth of this receiving corps. What will be an issue in this matchup is a defense that was torched for an average of 42.6 points a game.

LSU was on the fast track to a possible spot in this season's College Football Playoff with a SU 7-0 start, but things quickly came unglued with three-straight losses to Alabama, Arkansas and Ole Miss. The end result was a SU 8-3 record with a 5-6 mark against the spread. The Tigers failed to cover in three of their last four games with the total staying UNDER in the last three.

<p>
Right along with LSU's march to the top of the national polls was sophomore running back Leonard Fournette's run to the top of list of Heisman hopefuls. While both lost a head of steam in that 30-16 loss to the Tide on Nov. 7, Fournette is still a formidable force on the field as part of a rushing offense that was ninth in the nation with 245.9 yards a game. He rushed for a total of 1,741 yards and 18 touchdowns while averaging 6.4 yards a game. The biggest edge the Tigers have in this game is a defense that is allowing an average of 24 points a game.

Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. LSU Tigers Prediction

Texas Tech will score its fair share of points in this game, but I do not see this team getting anywhere close to its season average against a fairly stout LSU defense. The Tigers, on the other hand, should have a field day running the ball up and down the field to win and cover the current touchdown spread.
