Pitt at Wake Forest Game Overview

The Panthers are 6-4 straight-up, and they improved to 5-1 in conference play with a convincing 52-22 rout of Virginia Tech last Saturday as four-point home favorites. This followed an important 23-13 road victory against Virginia as seven-point underdogs to gain the tie-break advantage over the Cavaliers in the Coastal Division title race. Going back to a huge straight up upset at home against No. 12 Syracuse on Oct. 6, Pitt is 4-1 SU with a perfect 5-0 run ATS in its last five games.

In last week’s romp against the Hokies, Qadree Ollison rushed for 235 yards and three touchdowns as part of the Panthers’ 492 total rushing yards on 36 attempts for an average of 13.7 yards per carry. Pitt’s passing offense behind Kenny Pickett is averaging just 139.4 yards per game as opposed to the 256.9 yards this offense has averaged on the ground. The Panthers are scoring the same amount of points (29.9) as they are allowing on defense (29.6).

Wake Forest is an even 5-5 SU this season overall and 2-4 in ACC play coming off a stunning 27-23 upset over North Carolina State last Thursday as a heavy 19-point road underdog. It moved to 3-7 ATS on the year with the total staying UNDER in three of its previous four contests. The Demon Deacons are 2-4 SU at home this season with a 1-5 record ATS.

Quarterback Jamie Newman connected on a 33-yard touchdown throw to Jack Freudenthal in the final minute of Thursday night’s game to secure the win against the Wolfpack. He got the start for freshman Sam Hartman in that game. Wake Forest is averaging 235.8 passing yards a game, and it has also done an excellent job moving the ball on the ground with an average of 215.8 rushing yards. This offense is scoring 31.8 points per game but allowing 35.8 PPG on defense.

Pitt at Wake Forest Prediction 11/17/2018

Pitt has been able to play itself into position to win the ACC Coastal Division, so there is quite a bit riding on this game to seal the deal. Wake Forest has been a hard team to figure out all season long with a couple of decent efforts mixed in with some really ugly blowout losses.

Playing at home gives the Demon Deacons a small edge, but I really like the way the Panthers have been playing on both sides of the ball in their last three games. I am riding the hot team in this one with a bet on Pitt to cover on the road.
