The Panthers are coming off a 51-28 beatdown at the hands of Miami (FL) as 4.5-point road underdogs. This followed a tough 39-36 loss to Virginia Tech as 3.5-point underdogs at home. Pitt is now a straight-up 2-3 in ACC play as part of an overall record of 5-4. It has gone 3-6 against the spread this season and the total has gone OVER in its last eight games. It is 1-3 SU on the road with a 2-2 record ATS.

The run game continues to be one of the Panthers’ strong suits on offense with an average of 220.4 rushing yards a game. However, they only managed 130 yards on the ground in last week’s loss with James Conner leading the way with 40 rushing yards on 12 carries. Quarterback Nathan Peterman did spark the offense by completing 17-of-35 attempts for 287 passing yards and two scores, but it was not nearly enough. Pittsburgh’s defense has now allowed 30 or more points in each of its last four games and on the year it is giving up an average of 34.4 points a game.

Clemson continues to march towards another ACC title as well as a berth in the College Football Playoff with a nine-game SU winning streak this season. It has covered the spread in five of its last seven games and the total has gone OVER in three of its last five contests. The Tigers have won five straight at home and they are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five games at home.

It is hard to see Clemson scoring fewer than its season average of 38.6 points a game in this matchup given its high-power offense going up against one of the most porous defenses in Division IA(FBS). Heisman hopeful Deshaun Watson has thrown for 2,497 yards and 24 touchdowns while completing 64.4 percent of his 317 passing attempts. He is also second on the team in rushing with 370 yards and two scores on 95 carries. The Tigers’ defense is holding opponents to 15.7 points, which is the eighth lowest total in the nation.
