Irish vs. Bulldogs Set-Up

Notre Dame opened its 2019 campaign with a 35-17 victory at Louisville three weeks ago, then enjoyed a week off. The Irish then moved to 2-0 on the season with a 66-14 romp over New Mexico last Saturday.

Notre Dame came up just short ATS as an 18-point favorite over the Cardinals, then covered rather easily at -34 over the Lobos.

The Irish started a bit slowly against New Mexico last week, only leading 7-0 after the first quarter, then scored 31 points in the second quarter to take total control. On the day Notre Dame out-gained the Lobos 591-363, and most of the yardage the Irish defense gave up came in garbage time. The Golden Domers also won the turnover battle 4-0, creating a plus-31 points differential.

Notre Dame actually trailed Louisville three weeks ago 14-7 in the first quarter, then finished the game with a 28-3 run.

Georgia, meanwhile, opened its season with a 30-6 win at Vanderbilt, then mobbed Murray State 63-17, then last week disposed of Arkansas State 55-0. The Bulldogs kicked a late field goal to cover as 22-point favorites against the Commodores, came up one score short of covering at -49 against the Racers, then covered easily at -33 over the Red Wolves.

Georgia hasn't exactly played a Murderers' Row of a schedule so far, but it's out-rushed each of its first three opponents by an average of 227 yards.

These two programs have met just twice all-time. In the first meeting, Georgia and Herschel Walker beat Notre Dame in the 1981 Sugar Bowl 17-10 to secure a national championship. Then, 36 years later and two years ago, the Bulldogs "upset" the Irish in an early-season match-up in South Bend 20-19.

Current Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm should remember that second victory well, considering it was his first collegiate start.

Notre Dame at Georgia Prediction 9/21/19

Georgia is the better team here and should win this game, but Notre Dame has enough to keep things interesting. Also, playing at home means the line on the Bulldogs is inflated. And on top of that, we have no problem betting against the public flow. We'll take the Irish and the points here for our free college football pick.
