For the second time in the last month, the Fresno State Bulldogs (10-2) will travel to the notorious Blue Turf of Albertson’s Stadium to take on the Boise State Broncos (10-2) in the Mountain West Conference Championship. This game is a rivalry game also known as The Battle for the Milk Can, and once again it will be on the line along with the MWC Hardware for the second year in a row. The kick-off time is set for 7:45 PM ET and televised nationally on ESPN. The Broncos have held the upper hand in this series as of late emerging victorious on four of the last five meetings between both parties. The last met on November 9th in Boise where the Broncos were priced as a 2.5-point underdog which was the first time in a long time we saw the Smurfs priced as a pooch on their own soil. Nevertheless, Boise State would defeat Fresno State 24-17.

Fresno State Bulldogs at Boise State Broncos Overview

Fresno State Bulldogs

The Bulldogs come into this contest on a two-game winning streak that allowed the Bulldogs to assert their will as the team to beat in California in the Mountain West earning back-to-back wins against both San Diego State and San Jose State. Despite their two consecutive wins, the Bulldogs have failed to cover in their last three outings dating back to their loss against Boise on November 9th.

Boise State Broncos

The Broncos have now extended their winning streak to seven games after defeating perhaps their highest profile opponent all year when they took down the front-runner for the Mountain West crown, Utah State in Boise last Saturday. The Broncos closed at the same price we see they are offered at in this market and yet they defeated the Aggies by a score of 33-24 to produce a cover with ease.

Reasons To Back Fresno State

Fresno State takers can find themselves on the favorable end of a zig-zag in this contest. In the previous meeting between the two, all the money was with the Bulldogs as they were a hot team against the spread entering on a searing winning-streak. That all came crashing down when Boise State came up with the “upset” and now most of that same money is found on the other side. This is a betting phenomenon that often sets up many for another let-down should they get swept up in the under-toe of a “zig-zag”.

Reasons To Avoid Boise State

For a considerable period of this season, Boise State flew under the radar after they were pummeled by Oklahoma State and then lost to San Diego State. The pre-season chalk for the Mountain West title, the hype machine will once again be in full effect for this contest with the Broncos owning home field in the championship game they were supposed to be in. All this does is inflate the perception of this squad and cause its backers to find themselves prone to an overreaction.

Fresno State at Boise State Prediction 12/01/2018

If there is one thing that college football teaches us it is to expect the unexpected. Situationally, this is kind of the scenario where Fresno State can creep up with a historic win. A theme of Championship Week will be re-matches and the inability for the victor in the first installment to follow-up with a win in an even higher-stakes game. Boise State will be one of the victims to fall prey to this narrative.
