Alabama crushed Ole Miss last year and the year before, but going back a bit further the Rebels are actually 2-3 straight up and 3-2 against the spread over their recent five clashes with the Crimson Tide. Can Ole Miss keep things close when they visit Tuscaloosa Saturday afternoon? And how are we playing this game with our free college football pick?

Week 5's <a href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/ncaaf/odds&quot; title="NCAAF Week 5 Betting Lines">college football betting odds</a> opened Alabama at -34 over Ole Miss, with an over/under of right around 61. Early betting action then bumped the Tide to -35.5. Rebels vs. Tide Set-Up Ole Miss is off to a 2-2 start to this season, after falling at home to Cal last week 28-20. The Rebels trailed the Bears early 7-0 and late 28-20, drove deep inside Cal territory but got no help from the zebras on a pass completion at the goal line, then got stuffed on a quarterback sneak as time ran out. On the day Ole Miss racked up 525 yards of total offense and out-rushed the Bears 177-60. But the Rebs gave up 433 yards of Cal offense, allowed the Bears to go 6/12 on 3rd-down conversions and missed two field goals, one after reaching the Cal 1-yard line. Rebels starting quarterback Matt Corral left last week's game with a rib injury, but back-up John Rhys Plumlee nearly brought Ole Miss back. As of this writing, it's uncertain who will start behind center for the Rebs this week. Ole Miss opened its season with a 15-10 loss to Memphis, although the Rebels got outplayed by more than that final score might indicate. Mississippi then beat Arkansas 31-17, then defeated Southeast Louisiana 40-29.

Alabama, meanwhile, is 4-0, after disposing of Southern Mississippi last week 49-7. The Tide scored touchdowns on their first four possessions of the game, led 28-7 at the half and 42-7 through three quarters, then tacked on one final score with a minute and a half left to secure the cover as 37-point favorites. On the day Alabama out-gained the Golden Eagles 514-226 and won the ground battle 176-52. The Crimson Tide opened this season with a 42-3 victory over Duke, covering at -33. They then beat New Mexico State 62-10 but came up one score short of including a ridiculous 55-point spread. Alabama then won at South Carolina 47-23 but pissed away the money at -25 by allowing a meaningless Gamecocks touchdown with just 11 seconds left. In other words, despite playing against an average spread of -37.5, the Tide is a couple of plays away from 4-0 ATS. Rebels-Tide Recent History Back in 2014-15, Ole Miss beat Alabama twice in a row. But since then the Tide is 3-0 SU, 2-1 ATS against the Rebs, winning those three games by a combined score of 176-53. Last year Alabama mauled Ole Miss 62-7, covering as a 23-point favorite in Oxford. The Tide had that spread covered by the middle of the second quarter and rolled on from there. College Football Betting Trends Ole Miss is 0-5 ATS over its last five road games, and 0-2-1 ATS its previous three games as a dog of 21 points or more. Alabama is 9-5-1 ATS over its last 15 home games, which is excellent, considering the size of the spreads it faces on a regular basis. It's also 5-4-1 ATS in its last ten games when favored by between 30 and 40 points. Teams ranked in the AP Top 25 this season are 70-12 SU, 43-26 ATS against unranked teams. Teams ranked in the Top 5 are 18-0 SU, 11-7 ATS this season. Totals Report Totals are split 2-2 in Rebels games this season, which are averaging 47 total points. Totals are split 2-2 in Crimson Tide games this season, which are averaging 61 points. Overs are 3-1 in the last four meetings in this series, which have averaged a very healthy 77 points.

Ole Miss at Alabama Prediction 09/28/19

Alabama is going to win this game; the only things that really matter are the point-spread and the margin of victory. The Tide, however, is also banged up, with several guys on both sides of the trenches either out or questionable. Also, the line on this game is inflated because 'Bama's playing at home and because of the final scores of the last two meetings (66-3 and 62-7). Meanwhile, Ole Miss got some good play out of its quarterbacks last week. We'll take the Rebs and the points for our free college football pick.
