Two of the last four undefeated teams in the AAC put their perfect start on the line this Saturday night with the Memphis Tigers going on the road to face the Central Florida Knights in a 7 p.m. (ET) start on ESPN2 at Spectrum Stadium in Orlando.

Memphis at Central Florida Game Overview

The Tigers’ perfect 3-0 straight-up start is highlighted by a 48-45 upset against UCLA on Sept. 16 as slight 2.5-point underdogs at home. They failed to cover as four-touchdown favorites against Louisiana-Monroe and Southern Illinois at home to fall to 1-2 against the spread with the total going OVER in all three games. This will be their first road game of the season after failing to cover in three of their final five games on the road in 2016.

An explosive offense is putting things mildly when you describe the Tigers’ ability to put points on the board. Behind Riley Ferguson throwing the ball and Darrell Henderson running it, Memphis is averaging 43.7 points a game. While it has shown some solid balance between the pass and the run, the biggest concern for Saturday night could be on the other side of the ball with a defense that is allowing an average of 35 points a game.

Because of issues with Hurricane Irma, the Knights’ time on the field has been limited to just two games through their first five scheduled outings. At 2-0 both SU and ATS, they are coming off a huge 38-10 upset of the Big Ten’s Maryland Terrapins as five-point road underdogs last Saturday. The total stayed UNDER the closing 61.5-point closing betting line in that game. With the two victories both SU and ATS this season, UCF is now 9-4 ATS over its last 13 games.

Lack of playing time did not appear to be a factor against Maryland so you have to assume that the Knights will be ready to make up for lost time this Saturday night. Sophomore quarterback McKenzie Milton put the ball up 30 times last week and he completed 18 passes for 178 yards and a score. The Knights did the bulk of the damage on the ground with 250 yards rushing on 39 attempts to average 6.4 yards a carry. Milton led the way with six runs for 94 yards.

The Tigers have failed to cover in five of their last seven road games and they are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a SU winning record. The total has gone OVER in their last six games following a SU win.

The Knights are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a SU winning record, but they have covered in five of their last seven games at home. The total has stayed UNDER in eight of their last nine home games.

The home team in this conference clash has covered the spread in the last five meetings and the total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in four of those games.

Memphis Tigers at Central Florida Knights Week 5 Prediction

This matchup will definitely test the limits of an already inflated 70-point total line, but when all the smoke clears between these two conference foes, I have the Knights coming away with the SU victory that also covers the four-point spread. UCF is just a bit more balanced across both side of the ball with a defense that knows how to keep teams out of the end zone.
