It’s Week One of the 2019-20 College Football Season! On Thursday, August 29th, 2019 the Florida International Panthers will travel to the Big Easy to face off with the Tulane Green Wave in a Conference USA versus American Athletic Conference showdown. Kick-off time is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET and broadcast on ESPN3. This meeting is just the second in each of these two programs' respective histories against each other, the first dating back to 2017 where FIU curated the hosting duties. When the Panthers hosted the Green Wave in the aforementioned clash, the Panthers cruised to a 23-10 win despite closing as a 13-point home underdog.

Florida International Panthers at Tulane Rainbow Key Injury Concerns<br />
</h2>
<p>
As we venture into the opening frame of the season for both teams, neither Florida International nor Tulane have any signified injury concerns to key personnel. Both the Panthers and Green Wave will be fielding full squads for their season opener.

<h2>
Florida International Panthers at Tulane Green Wave Overview<br />
</h2>
<p>
<b>Florida International Panthers </b>
</p>
<p>
Under the captainship of seasoned veteran Head Coach Butch Davis, the Panthers come into the 2019-2020 season as one of the favorites to vie for the Conference USA title. It is certainly understandable why such an assessment would be made. FIU is a well-oiled machine that many have heralded as the best-coached team in the C-USA. In the 2018-2019 season, FIU won nine games, including a 35-32 victory over MAC stalwart Toledo in the Bahamas Bowl.

<b>Tulane Green Wave </b>
</p>
<p>
The Green Wave come into the 2019-2020 season on the heels of a 7-6 campaign in their preceding effort. Tulane has undergone a bit of an offensive renaissance as they have become a football team that takes pride in running the football. Last year, Tulane procured 218.2 rushing yards per game which placed them 23rd overall in the FBS. Tulane will look to achieve similar accolades in 2019 behind the bell of their bull rusher Darius Bradwell who compiled over 1,100 rushing yards in the 2018-19 season and 11 touchdowns.

Reasons To Back Florida International Panthers<br />
</h2>
<p>
In <a href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/ncaaf/betting-early-college-football…; title="Finding The Value In Early NCAAF Games">finding value in the numbers</a>, we have an opportunity to take back a tag on a team that we documented is a favorite to vie for the Conference USA title. Very simply, the price dictates the play here. However, it goes beyond that. Butch Davis is a coach that needs no introduction, and he is building something special in the lesser-known university in Miami. With a crop of seasoned starters returning to the fold (13 in total on both offense and defense), FIU certainly won't be affected by opening their season on the road. After all, if standard practices apply, FIU would be the favorite here if they were playing this one on their own turf. There is way too much emphasis on the location narrative while there is not enough credence given to the coaching edge FIU holds.

<h2>
Reasons To Avoid Tulane Green Wave<br />
</h2>
<p>
Many pundits will highlight the fact that Tulane has a favorable match-up against FIU's rush defense which admittedly was rather weak in the 2018-19 season. FIU gave up a 92nd ranked 192.2 rushing yards per game but complemented this with what many call one of the best secondary units in the Group of Five. FIU brings this secondary back in 2019, and I expect them to shut down Tulane's only aerial weapon, Darnell Mooney who finished just seven yards shy of a 1,000-yard effort in the 2018-19 season. With this said, FIU's secondary will give the Panthers a chance to load up the box and slow down the running game. This will be effective in playing ball control and allowing the momentum to swing toward the Panthers. However, I do not see Tulane having an answer for FIU Senior Quarterback James Morgan who led FIU to score 34.6 points per game (26th nationally) last season. After all, Tulane gave up a 73rd-ranked 27.5 points per game in the 2018-19 campaign.

FIU at Tulane Prediction

This game could become one-sided, and I do think Florida International is going to get on top of Tulane quick and never look back. FIU is a dangerous team and a name that many should pay attention to. Given how the Panthers schedule sets up, it is a very strong possibility that this unit will find itself undefeated heading into their rivalry clash with FAU on November 9th. Should they get past the Owls unscathed, it will be very interesting to see how things transpire when they host the Miami Hurricanes on November 23rd. However, first thing first, I expect the Panthers to make a statement here and win this one by double-digits. Play this one outright on the Money Line.
