Charlotte, playing as a six-point dog, took the lead for good on a first-quarter field goal, went up 10-0 early in the third, and held on from there, surviving a late Pirates missed field goal that would have tied the game.

Charlotte out-gained East Carolina 328-127, out-rushed the Pirates 184-39, and dominated time of possession 41:19.
