The Big 12 Championship will feature yet another chapter of one college football’s most historic feuds, the Red River Showdown. The No. 5-ranked Oklahoma Sooners (11-1) will take on the No. 9-ranked Texas Longhorns (4-1) at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas where both New Year’s Six and College Football Playoff implications are on the line. The kick-off is set for 12:00 PM ET and will be televised for national audiences on ABC. These two teams met earlier this year in October in what was a pivotal affair for both sides. The Longhorns edged out their arch-rivals by a score of 48-45 to generate a victory as a touchdown dog. Texas has covered in the last six meetings between these two bitter foes.

Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners Overview

Texas Longhorns

Texas once again might have been caught looking ahead last week when they struggled to get rid of a pesky Kansas team on the road when they defeated the Jayhawks 24-17 despite being favored to win by 15.5 points. The Longhorns overall come in on a three-game winning streak since suffering a heartbreaking defeat at home against West Virginia where the Hook-Ems were defeated by virtue of a two-point conversion.

Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma comes in off a 59-56 basketball game on turf against said West Virginia team when they edged them out in Morgantown on Black Friday. The Sooners have given up more than 40 points in their last four games and relied solely on their offense to produce victories. Against Texas in October, the Sooners were down 21 points at one point but managed to rally in the fourth quarter, and draw level before Texas slipped away.

Reasons To Avoid Texas

The Longhorns took easy here in this spot with the touchdown-plus being offered back to takers especially when they have been a cash cow in this market and won outright at a similar price against OU earlier this year. However, this is no mistake by the books as they are even sharper in championship-level games such as this one. There is an excellent chance that Texas will have a difficult time defeating Oklahoma as it is hard to beat the same team twice in the same season. Last year's SEC Championship between the Bulldogs of Georgia and Auburn typified that narrative.

Reasons To Back Oklahoma

Oklahoma has been scrutinized by many for their defensive play in the last month, but one thing they can hang their hat on is that fourth quarter of the Red River Showdown where they outscored Texas 21-3, the three points coming at the last nine seconds of regulation. Chances are Coach Lincoln Riley will study the film of that quarter and produce a game-plan that reflects those efforts.

Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners Prediction 12/01/2018

We also have to take notice of the hook here with the 7.5-point number. This is a figure often utilized by the market to entice action on the underdog with the guise of a win if the pooch loses by a touchdown. However, Oklahoma will win this one by double-digits as they will put together their best defensive performance this season. This spells bad news for Texas as they had no answer for Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray who threw for 394 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 92 yards and a score against them. The problem is Murray has only gotten better since that game and Texas' defense has just gotten exposed more on several occasions by comparably potent offenses like West Virginia, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech. Sooners win big.
