Atlanta at Washington Game Overview

The Hawks let Game 1 slip away in the third quarter on their way to a 114-107 setback as 5.5-point road underdogs this past Sunday. The total went OVER the closing 209.5-point line and it has gone OVER in four of their last six games. Atlanta closed out the regular season with a 5-2 record against the spread in its last seven road games starting with a 104-100 loss to the Wizards on March 22 as an eight-point underdog on the road.

In Sunday’s loss, Dennis Schroder led the way for the Hawks with 25 points and nine assists while Paul Millsap added 19 points as the team’s leading scorer this season. Atlanta shot 43.6 percent from the field and it was only able to connect on seven of its 25 shots from three-point range. It ended the regular season ranked 22nd in the NBA in scoring with an average of 103.2 points per game. However, it improved to 10th on defense when it came to points allowed (104.0).

Washington won the Southeast Division this season with a straight-up record of 49-33 that included a 30-11 record on its home court. Prior to Sunday’s victory, the Wizards had gone 3-5 both SU and ATS in their previous eight regular season games with the total staying UNDER in three of their final four games of the year. They are 3-1 ATS in their last four games played at home with the total going OVER in three of those contests.

John Wall had a very productive start to this series with a game-high 32 points while hitting 12 of his 24 shots from the field. He also added 14 assists to post the double-double. Bradley Beal chipped in 22 points and all five Washington starters ended Game 1 in double figures. The Wizards also struggled from beyond the arc with a 28.6 shooting percentage from three-point range. They are the fifth in the league when it comes to scoring points with an average of 109.2 PPG, but they fall to 21st at the other end of the court with a points-allowed average of 107.4.

Atlanta Hawks at Washington Wizards Prediction

The Hawks won their regular season opener against Washington 114-99 as four-point home favorites before losing the last four meetings SU (1-3 ATS). It is going be tough to snap this skid on road against a Washington team that appears to be in prime postseason form.

I am going to lay the five points and take the Wizards to pull off the two-game sweep at home both SU and ATS before the series shifts to Atlanta for the next two games.
