Pennzoil 400 Value Bets

Denny Hamlin posted the first victory of the year on the 2019 Cup Series schedule by winning the Daytona 500. Last Sunday in Atlanta, Brad Keselowski joined that early winner’s list with a victory in that race.

The following is a look at a trio of value picks to win this Sunday’s main event based on betting odds from 5Dimes online sportsbook.

Pennzoil 400 Top Favorite- Kevin Harvick +500

I went with Harvick last week as my top-valued favorite, and it almost paid off with the No. 4 Ford taking fourth place in that race. He was able to stay in the lead for 45 laps, but in the end, he faded just outside a podium finish. I am going chalk again this week by picking the top favorite to close that gap at Las Vegas to become the third different driver to win this season.

Going with Harvick as the favorite to win is also a smart choice given his past success at this track. He comes into this race as defending champion as part of last season’s eight total Cup Series victories. He started that campaign by winning the next three races following Daytona; beginning with a win at Atlanta and ending with a trip to Victory Lane in Phoenix.

Pennzoil 400 Top Contender- Joey Logano +1150

The defending 2018 Cup Series Champ started his title defense with a fourth-place finish in the Daytona 500 by successfully avoiding all of those late-race wrecks. He showed up at Atlanta, but the No. 22 Ford did not with a 23rd-place finish after starting 27th in the field. I decided to keep Logano on my racing radar screen this season after last year’s impressive playoff run to the title. He becomes all the more attractive when his betting odds get extended.

Las Vegas has been a solid run for Logano throughout his career. With the schedule expanding to two races last season, he was able to extend his streak of consecutive Top 10 finishes to six. He placed seventh in the first race and fourth in the second event, which also happened to be the first of 10 races in the playoff. Overall, Logano is still looking for his first career victory in Las Vegas in a Cup Series event, but a steady 9.2 average finishing position here adds even more value to his long odds.

Pennzoil 400 Top Longshot- Chase Elliott +2750

I have been a big Chase Elliott fan ever since he got a full-time Cup Series ride ahead of the 2016 racing season. After getting shutout of Victory Lane in his first two campaigns, he broke through last season with a trio of point-race wins behind the wheel of the No. 9 Chevrolet. After a wreck at Daytona dropped him to 17th in the first race this year, a sluggish car resulted in a 19th-place run at Atlanta after starting 22nd. While the slow start might have contributed to the long odds for this race, I still see some great value in that number. The Oddsmakers at 5Dimes are still touting Elliott as a Top 5 driver to win this year's racing title, and I would have to agree.

His limited experience at Las Vegas is another factor weighing down his chances to win on Sunday, especially when you have gotten caught up in wrecks in three of four races. However the one trip Elliott did complete in 2017 ended up as a third-place finish.
