Last Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway, Kyle Busch finally crossed the finish line first after coming dangerously close to winning in his last few races. Kevin Harvick started second and finished second while Jamie McMurray turned in a solid run to round out the Top 3. My top valued play at +1100 odds was Denny Hamlin, but his day was cut short in a wreck.

The following is a look at a trio of the top favorites to win this Sunday’s race in Bristol along with my top-valued pick at longer odds as provided by 5Dimes.

Kyle Busch +400

Now that Busch has that first victory under his belt, he could be poised to reel off a couple of wins in a row given just how competitive the No. 18 Toyota has been in the early part of the season. With Sunday’s win, he has finished third or better in his last five races while leading for at least ten laps in all five events. His total laps led this season stands at 349 through the first seven point races on the schedule. Busch's day ended early in this race last season with a wreck, but he went on to win the second race at Bristol as part of his six career victories at this track in a point-race event.

Kevin Harvick +500

Harvick had to trade places with Busch for the first time in three races that the two drivers finished 1-2 in the final running order. The No. 4 Ford led 87 laps in last Sunday’s race in pursuit of the team’s fourth win of the season. There have been a few slips along the way including a recent 35th-place finish at Fontana, but Harvick has quickly positioned himself as a valued favorite in every race he runs. When it comes to his recent runs at Bristol, Harvick has placed eighth or better in his last five Cup Series events including a victory in the second race here in 2016 followed by a third-place finish in this race last season.

Martin Truex Jr. +650

Coming off a frustrating 37th-place finish at Bristol after getting caught up in an early wreck, the defending Cup Series Champion will look to return to the form that led to five consecutive Top 5 finishes in his previous five events, including a victory at Fontana. Truex has the No. 78 Toyota in fifth place in the current Cup Series standings with a total of 250 points. He is still looking for his first career victory at Bristol in a Cup Series event to drain a bit of value out of these odds, especially in light of an inflated 20.3 average finishing position at this track.

Food City 500 Prediction 04/15/2018

I had gone with the famed No. 48 Chevrolet at longer odds before this season and paid the price. This is because I am having a tough time accepting the fact that a seven-time Cup Series Champion has just one Top 10 finish in his first seven events. A wreck took Johnson out of last week's race coming off a 15th-place finish at Martinsville. The only ray of light was a ninth-place run at Fontana as a native Californian. This race could be the week that this high-risk play does pay off with Johnson's return to this event as the defending champion.
