Kevin Harvick started this year’s Chase with a bad run at Chicagoland, but he is back on track for another Sprint Cup title run after winning last week at New Hampshire. Matt Kenseth was second in that race followed by Kyle Busch. My top-valued pick at +1150 odds was Jimmie Johnson and he ended up eighth.

The following is a look at a few of the top favorites to win this Sunday’s race along with my top value pick based on betting odds provided by 5Dimes.

Kevin Harvick is a lock to make it into the next round of the Chase with last week’s win and he comes into Dover as a heavy +550 favorite to win again this Sunday. I do feel that some of the value in these lofty odds is lost due the win at New Hampshire, but it is hard to deny that the No. 4 Chevrolet has been hot lately with five Top 5 runs in its last six events starting with a victory at Bristol back in August. Harvick finished 15th in the first race at Dover this season, but he does come into this event as the defending champion.

The second-favorite to win this week is Martin Truex Jr. at +650 betting odds based mainly on his current racing form. He fell back to seventh place last week after leading that race for 141 laps and this was on the heels of his recent win at Chicagoland in the first event of this year’s Chase. Prior to that, he won at Darlington and placed third at Richmond so suffice to say the No. 78 Toyota is another hot car on the track right now. The last time Truex Jr. won at Dover in a Sprint Cup event was back in 2007 and his best finish in this event in recent years was seventh in 2014.

Matt Kenseth was close to getting a free pass onto the next round of the Chase with last week’s runner up finish and he has been listed as a +750 third-favorite to take the checkered flag this time around. The No. 20 Toyota is currently fourth in the Sprint Cup standings with 2078 points so barring a disaster at Dover this team should advance to the next round, but the Chase is still a “win and you’re in” event so expect Kenseth to be racing hard this Sunday. The other big plus to these odds is that he will be going for the season sweep at the Monster Mile after winning the first Sprint Cup event here this season.

Citizen Soldier 400 Prediction

The Chase is much different than the regular Sprint Cup season given the elimination factor after every third race. Joey Logano is currently in fifth-place in the standings so his chances to advance remain good, but at +1350 betting odds I think that there is some tremendous value that he makes it a moot point with a victory this Sunday. The No. 22 Ford faded to 11th last week at New Hampshire after challenging for the win in Chicago with a second-place finish so current racing form remains high. Dover has not been one of his best tracks, but Logano has remained competitive here with a Top 10 finish in seven of his last nine races.
