The 56-50 Houston Astros will look to even the series against the 60-47 Toronto Blue Jays when they host the final game of a four game set in Houston, Texas tonight. The first pitch of the series finale is scheduled to be thrown at Minute Maid Park at 8:10 PM ET on August 4, 2016.

In Game 3 of this four game series yesterday the Blue Jays beat the Astros 3-1. Toronto scored three runs on seven hits and Houston could only muster one run on five hits in this low scoring series.

The Blue Jays lost the first game of this four-game series, but have won the last two and can take the series tonight with a win. They are in 2nd place in the AL East only one game back of the Baltimore Orioles. Toronto ranks 5th in runs scored and 7th in team ERA.

The Astros have lost two in a row and five of their last six games and they sit in 2nd place in the AL West 5.5 games back of the Texas Rangers. Houston ranks tied for 16th in runs scored and 8th in team ERA.

Pitching Match Up

Toronto: J.A. Happ (14-3, 3.16 ERA)
Houston: Mike Fiers (7-4, 4.42 ERA)

J.A. Happ goes for the Blue Jays in this game and in his last outing he only gave up one earned run in seven innings in a 9-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles. The Blue Jays have won his last nine starts. In Happ’s last five starts he has given up a total of just five earned runs. Toronto is 4-1 in Happ’s last 5 road starts.

Mike Fiers gets the starting nod for the Astros and in his last outing he did not give up any earned runs in six innings, but the bullpen did not do their job in a 3-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers. The Astros have lost two of his last three starts. Before his last start Fiers had given up a total of nine earned runs in his previous two starts. The Astros are 5-0 in Fiers' last five home starts.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Houston Astros Prediction

In the first three games of this series the teams have combined for 10 runs. Each game is a separate event, but by the way the two teams have been hitting and the scheduled starters it’s logical to predict much of the same tonight. Jays’ starter J.A. Happ has held the opposition to one or fewer runs in four of his last five and has a 70% QS ratio on the road this season. The Astros Mike Fiers has struggled at times this season, but has been good at home for the most part with a very respectable ERA of 3.39. These two teams could of course play long ball today and blow this up, but my money is going on the underside of total.
