Pitching Match Up

Texas: Andrew Cashner (4-7, 3.54 ERA)
Baltimore: Chris Tillman (1-5, 7.90 ERA)

Andrew Cashner gets the nod in the first game of this series and in his last outing he had a good one not giving up any earned runs in seven innings in an 8-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. The Rangers had lost his previous two starts where he gave up nine earned runs in nine innings. This is Cashner’s first start against the Orioles this season and his only career start against them was back in the 2013 season. While Cashner has not allowed a HR in 45 innings on the road this season he has an ERA on the road of 4.37 while he has an ERA of 2.50 at home. Texas has only won two of Cashner’s last eight road starts.

Chris Tillman goes for the Orioles tonight and he gave up two earned runs in five innings in his last start, which was a 6-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. While the Orioles won his last two starts the lineup is to thank for that since he only went eight innings and gave up nine runs. In Tillman’s last 10 starts he is winless and has an ERA of 8.80. At home this season Tillman has an ERA of 5.88 while on the road he has a terrible ERA of 12.33. In his career against the Rangers Tillman is 3-2 with an ERA of 5.40. Baltimore has lost four of his last five home starts and they have lost six of his last eight starts overall.

Texas Rangers vs. Baltimore Orioles Prediction

The Rangers had won two in a row after the All Star break before losing in their last game. They need to win tonight to get to .500 and they are tied with the Seattle Mariners in the AL West 16.5 games back of the Houston Astros. The Rangers pitching has been solid as of late giving up a total of nine runs in their last six games. The Orioles are coming off being swept at home in a three-game set against the Chicago Cubs and they are tied with the Toronto Blue Jays in the basement of the AL East nine games back of the Boston Red Sox. Baltimore ranks 2nd to last in the Majors in team ERA and they gave up a total of 27 runs in their last three games. Cashner is coming off a good start and while his ERA is decent his record is not and has not gotten much run support. That will change in this game and while Tillman was not bad in his last outing he has been bad on the season and the Texas lineup will rough him up. The Rangers will take the first game of this series and hand the Orioles their 4th straight loss.
