Pitching Match Up

Tampa Bay: Blake Snell (2-4, 3.11 ERA)
Oakland: Jesse Hahn (2-4, 6.49 ERA)

Blake Snell goes for the Rays today and in his last outing he was solid not giving up any earned runs in six innings in a 10-1 win over the Colorado Rockies. The Rays had lost his previous two starts. The Rays are 2-5 in Snell’s last 7 starts. Snell is a rookie and will be making his first career starts against the A’s tonight.

Jesse Hahn gets the call for the A’s and in his last outing he gave up four earned runs in only three innings in a 4-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The A’s have lost his last two starts and in that span he has only lasted four innings and has given up 11 earned runs. The A’s are 4-1 in Hahn’s last four home starts, but are only 3-8 in his last 11 starts facing a team that has a losing record. Hahn is making his first start since June 8th, as he was recently recalled from the minors.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Oakland A's Prediction

The Rays starter rookie Blake Snell has been very good in three road starts allowing two or fewer runs in all three outings and brings a 1.53 road ERA into this game. The Athletics called up Jesse Hahn who has been up and down when in the majors this season, but has pitched well at home this season recording three quality starts in four games with Oakland getting the W in three of the four outings. With the lack of consistent scoring by these two teams and the pitching match-up I’m willing to take a shot on the total.
