The Blue Jays shoot to continue with their hot baseball when they take on the short-handed Cardinals in the second game of an inter-league battle of the birds at Rogers Centre Wednesday night. Former National Leaguer Kevin Gausman goes for Toronto here against ol' Adam Wainwright for St. Louis.

MLB Betting Odds

Wednesday's baseball betting lines opened Toronto and Gausman at around -225 over St. Louis and Wainwright, with an over/under of eight runs. Early betting action then goosed the Blue Jays to -250.

Toronto could also be found at around -120, giving the run and a half on the run line.

Cardinals-Blue Jays MLB Betting Preview

Toronto grabbed the opener of this series Tuesday night, 10-3. That game was tied at 3-3 through 5 1/2 innings before the Blue Jays put up a five-spot in the bottom of the sixth and cruised from there. Toronto won as a -215 favorite Tuesday and covered against the run line at a price of -115.

With Tuesday's victory, the Jays now own a seven-game winning streak. At 54-43, overall, Toronto trails the first-place Yankees by 11.5 games in the AL East but also leads the AL wild-card race by a game and a half over second-place Seattle.

With Tuesday's loss, St. Louis is now 3-5 over its last eight games. At 51-47 overall, the Cardinals trail first-place Milwaukee by three games in the NL Central but cling to the No. 3 spot in the NL wild-card standings.

The big news for St. Louis concerning this series is the absence of 3B Nolan Arenado and 1B Paul Goldschmidt because of Canada's stupid vaccination rules.

This series is the second meeting between these teams this season; back in May, they split two games at Busch Stadium. Gausman picked up a win in one of those games, and both games played over their totals.

Wednesday's Pitching Match-Up

<a class="advblue" href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/mlb/pitcherlog/48241" title="Kevin Gausman Pitching Game Stats">Gausman is 10/18 on quality starts this season and three for his last five. Last Friday in Boston, he got staked to a 14-0 lead, gave up three runs through five innings, walked none, and struck out 10 in that 28-5 Toronto romp over the Red Sox. And over his last five starts, he's held opponents to seven runs and 29 hits through 26 innings, with seven walks against 36 strikeouts.

The Blue Jays are only 9-9 with Gausman this season, but that's probably a game or two worse than they should be, based on his performances.

Over his last two starts against St. Louis, one last year with San Francisco, and one back in May of this season, Gausman allowed just two runs and seven hits through 13 innings, with four walks and 16 whiffs.

<a class="advblue" href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/mlb/pitcherlog/39441" title="Adam Wainwright Pitching Game Logs">Wainwright is 9/19 on quality starts this year but coming off his worst outing of the season last Friday against Cincinnati when he got bombed for seven runs and two home runs through 5 1/3 innings of a 9-5 Cardinals loss. But over his four starts previous to that, he held foes to six runs and 24 hits through 27 innings.

St. Louis is 10-9 with Wainwright this season, which is about what they should be, based on his performances.

This will be Wainwright's first start against the Blue Jays since 2017, and that's a long time ago.

Splits With the Sticks

St. Louis is batting .246 against right-handed pitching this season, with a .314 team OBP and a .395 team slugging percentage. But remember, this line-up will be without two big sticks Wednesday in Arenado and Goldschmidt.

Toronto is slashing .271/.333/.449 against right-handed pitching. Numbers like those lead us to rank this line-up as the best in Baseball in this split.

The Bullpens

The Blue Jays bullpen owns a 4.01 ERA this season and a 1.22 WHIP.

The Cardinals' pen owns a 3.63 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.

MLB Betting Trends

St. Louis is 22-27 on the road this season and 40-38 against right-handed starters.

Toronto is 31-19 at home and 45-31 against right-handed starters.

Totals Report

The Under is 48-46 in Cardinals games this season.

The Over is 53-43 in Blue Jays games.

The Over is 29-21 at Rogers Centre this season.

Cards vs. Jays Prediction 7/27/22

We give Gausman our handicapping check-mark in the pitching match-up and Toronto owns a big advantage in the splits with the sticks. So we like the Blue Jays here. But we don't like that price. So we'll take a chance and give the run and a half with Toronto against the run line.
