After taking the first game of this two-game NL Central rivalry series Tuesday night the playoff-hopeful Brewers shoot for the sweep Wednesday night at Busch Stadium. Reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes goes for Milwaukee here against Adam Wainwright for the Cardinals.

Which way are we going here for our free baseball betting pick?

MLB Betting Odds

Wednesday’s baseball betting lines opened the Brewers and Burnes at around -120 over St. Louis and Wainwright, with an over/under of seven runs. Early betting action has dropped the total line to 7 while trhe money line has remained close to its opener.

Brewers-Cardinals MLB Betting Preview

Milwaukee grabbed the opener of this series Tuesday night 8-4. That game was tied at 4-4 through four innings but the Brewers scored the last four runs of the game while six relievers held St. Louis scoreless over the last seven innings.

Milwaukee won Tuesday as a +155 underdog against Jordan Montgomery and the game played over a total of 7.5 runs.

With Tuesday’s win Milwaukee is 5-1 over its last six games.

With Tuesday’s loss St. Louis is 4-4 over its last eight games.

At 83-59 overall the Cardinals lead the NL Central by seven games over the 76-66 Brewers, with 20 games to go. So St. Louis is probably going to win the division. But Milwaukee also only trails San Diego by two games in the battle for the third and final NL wild-card spot.

These teams have split 16 meetings this season.

Wednesday's Pitching Match-Up

This pitching match-up is a rematch of a game played back on Aug. 13 also at Busch Stadium, a 3-2 Milwaukee victory.

<a class="advblue" href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/mlb/pitcherlog/39441" title="Adam Wainwright Pitching Game Logs">Wainwright is 15/28 on quality starts this season but 0 for his last two. Last Thursday against Washington he gave up four runs and nine hits through five innings of an 11-6 St. Louis loss. And just before that he gave up four runs and nine hits through five frames of an 8-4 Cardinals victory over the Cubs.

St. Louis is 16-12 with Wainwright this season, and that’s about what it should be, based on his performances.

Over four starts already this season against the Brewers Wainwright allowed 13 runs - 12 earned - and 28 hits, including five home runs, through 23 innings. The Cardinals lost three of those four games.

<a class="advblue" href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/mlb/pitcherlog/213463" title="Corbin Burnes Pitching Game Stats">Burnes is 18/28 on quality starts this year but only one for his last five. Last Thursday he held San Francisco to one run and three hits through eight innings, with zero walks against 14 strikeouts, in a 2-1 Milwaukee win. But over his four starts previous to that he got knocked around for 20 runs - 17 earned - and 26 hits through 21 innings.

The Brewers are 18-10 with Burnes this season and that’s probably a game or two worse than they should be.

Over three starts already this season against St. Louis Burnes allowed just one run and eight hits through 21 innings, with three walks against 27 whiffs. Milwaukee won all three of those games.

Splits With the Sticks

The Brewers are batting .242 against right-handed pitching this season, with a .319 team OBP and a .433 team slugging percentage.

The Cardinals are slashing .253/.323/.416 against right-handed pitching.

The Bullpens

The St. Louis bullpen owns a 3.87 ERA this season, along with a 1.26 WHIP.

The Milwaukee pen owns a 3.93 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP.

The overs are 69-68 in Cardinals games.

Brewers at Cardinals Betting Prediction 9/14/22

We give Burnes the check-mark in the pitching match-up mainly because of the much better recent past performance against these opponents. From there both the splits with the sticks and the bullpen comparisons are about even. So the right team is favored here. Also, Milwaukee is going good as of late while St. Louis seems to be slowing just a bit, following a super last six weeks or so. So we’re betting the Brewers Wednesday night.
