How are we playing Friday's game with our free baseball betting pick?

MLB Betting Odds

Friday's baseball betting lines opened Los Angeles and Urias as around -160 over San Diego and Martinez, with an over/under of 8.5 runs. Early betting action then dipped that total to eight.

LA could also be found getting around +105, giving the 1.5 runs on the run line.

Dodgers-Padres MLB Betting Preview

Los Angeles just took two of three games at home from Atlanta, winning Wednesday's series rubber match 5-1. The Dodgers then enjoyed yesterday off.

Just before that, LA swept four games from Cincinnati, and just before that, they took two games at Minnesota. So the Dodgers are 3-0 over their last three series and 8-1 over their last nine games.

Los Angeles has also held opponents to three runs or less ten times through its first 12 games.

San Diego, meanwhile, just swept three games at home from the hapless Reds, winning Wednesday's series finale 6-0. The Padres then also enjoyed yesterday off.

Just before that, San Diego split four games with the Braves, and just before that, it lost two of three to San Francisco.

Padres' pitching's also been pretty good this season, holding opponents to three runs or less nine times through their first 14 games.

Last year LA took the season series from San Diego 12 games to seven.

Friday's Pitching Match-Up

Martinez, who spent the last four years pitching in Japan, is 0/2 on quality starts for his new team this season. Last Saturday, he gave up four runs on seven hits, including three home runs and four walks through five innings of a 5-2 San Diego loss to Atlanta. But five days before that, in his season debut, he held San Francisco to one run through five frames of a 4-2 Padres victory.

On the whole, Martinez has allowed five runs and 17 base-runners (hits + walks) through 10 innings, with five walks and nine strikeouts.

This will be Martinez's first-ever start against the Dodgers.

Urias is also 0/2 on quality starts this season. Last Saturday, he held Cincinnati scoreless on one hit through five innings of a 5-2 Los Angeles win. But six days before that, he gave up six runs - three earned - and six hits through just two innings of a 9-4 LA loss to Colorado.

So on the hole this season, Urias has allowed three ER and seven hits through seven innings.

Over three starts last year against San Diego, Urias allowed six runs and ten hits through 16 innings. The Dodgers won two of those three games.

Splits With the Sticks

Los Angeles is batting .282 against right-handed pitching this season, with a .363 team OBP and a .460 team slugging percentage.

San Diego is slashing .252/.342/.466 against left-handed pitching. The Padres are also still playing without Fernando Tatis, Jr. (42 HR last year).

The Bullpens

The Dodgers bullpen owns a 2.44 ERA this season, along with a 0.83 WHIP.

The San Diego pen owns a 3.61 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP.

MLB Betting Trends

  • The Dodgers are 8-2 against right-handed starters this season.
  • The Padres are 4-1 against left-handed starters.

Totals Report

  • The Under is 7-4 in Dodgers games this season.
  • The Under is 10-4 in Padres games.
  • The overs played 41-38 at Petco Park last season.
  • The overs played 10-7 in Dodgers-Padres games last season.

Dodgers vs. Padres prediction 4/22/22

We give Urias the check-mark in the pitching match-up, and Los Angeles owns edges in the splits with the sticks and the bullpen comparison. So we like LA here. Also, knowing the visiting team will bat nine times, we're going to give the run and a half and play the Dodgers against the run line.
