The Red Sox grabbed the opener of this AL East series Friday night, so the Rays will try to even things up Saturday evening in St. Pete. Tampa Bay will send "opener" JP Feyereisen to the mound here against Garrett Whitlock, making his first career start for Boston. Red Sox-Rays MLB Betting Preview<br />
</h2>
<p>
Boston took the opener of this series Friday night 4-3. The Red Sox scored two runs in the top of the first inning Friday, added two more in the third, and hung on from there, getting the last out of the game with the bases loaded. Boston won Friday as a +130 underdog on the baseball betting dime line and the game played under a total of 7.5 runs. Earlier this week, the Red Sox lost two of three games to Toronto, and just before that, they split four games with Minnesota. Tampa Bay, meanwhile, took two of three from the Cubs earlier this week, but that came on the heels of a four-game losing skid. At 7-7 overall, both teams trail first-place Toronto by two games in the AL East. Last year the Rays took the season series from Boston 11 games to eight, but the Red Sox beat Tampa in four games in an AL divisional-round playoff series.

Saturday's Pitching Match-Up<br />
</h2>
<p>
<a href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/mlb/pitcherlog/330582&quot; title="J.P. Feyereisen Pitching Logs">Feyereisen</a> is making his sixth appearance of this season and his second start. Last Sunday, in his first career ML start, he tossed two perfect innings against the White Sox, with three strikeouts, in a 9-3 Tampa Bay victory. And on the season, he's allowed zero runs and two hits through 5 1/3 innings, with zero walks and seven whiffs. Last year, splitting time with Milwaukee and the Rays, Feyereisen produced a 2.73 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP through 56 innings of work. He walked a few too many - 33 - but perhaps he's corrected that this season. Also, last year over eight appearances against Boston - three in the playoffs - Feyereisen allowed just two runs on nine hits and one walk through 10 innings, with seven K's. <a href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/mlb/pitcherlog/387466&quot; title="Garrett Whitlock Starting Stats">Whitlock</a> is making his fifth appearance of this season and his first career start. Tuesday, he tossed one perfect inning of relief against Toronto, and on the season, he's allowed just one run and four hits through 9 2/3 innings, with two walks and 11 strikeouts. Last year as a rookie, Whitlock put up a 1.96 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP through 73 1/3 innings, with 17 walks against 81 whiffs!

<p>
Also, last year over six appearances against Tampa Bay, Whitlock allowed four earned runs and 12 hits through 10 1/3 innings, with three walks and nine K's.

Boston at Tampa Bay Prediction 4/23/22

We'll call this pitching match-up a wash; both young starters look good, as do both bullpens. From there, we notice that Boston's scored a total of 10 runs over its last five games while Tampa has scored 28 runs its last five times out. And after going 0/7 with runners in scoring position Friday night, we expect a little better luck for the Rays Saturday. So we're betting Tampa here to even this series.
