It's the weekend of Derbies in the Premier League, as, despite the Manchester Derby, we also have the Liverpool Derby. Everton will play host to Liverpool on Saturday, as the two teams have different needs right now in the season. Everton is looking to play out their chances of a top-6 finish and the European ticket that comes with it. Liverpool is trying to secure a spot in next season's Champions League, but they are also dealing with the competition right now, as they are in the midst of their quarter-finals tie against Manchester City.

Everton (11-14-7) suffered a terrible loss at home last week when they fell by 3-1 against the visiting Manchester City. They saw their opponents take the lead very early in the match (4th minute), and before they knew what hit them, Manchester City scored a second, and then a third goal by the 37th minute. Everton was unable to come back from such a deficit, and the best thing they managed to do in the second half was to score a consolation goal at the 63rd minute, for the final 3-1. Everton has now won just two of their last five matches (2-3-0). They are sitting at the 9th spot of the Premier League with 40 points, eleven points behind Arsenal and the top-6 places of the league table that grant entrance to the European competitions next season. Challenging Arsenal is undoubtedly a long way to go, but Everton will try to finish the season in the best possible way. However, they will have a ton of absences coming into this match, as Sigurdsson, Stekelenburtg, McCarthy, Mangala, and Holgate have been ruled out, while Gueye is still being listed as doubtful to participate.

On the other hand, Liverpool (19-4-9) are coming into this match after a dominant performance in the Champions League quarter-finals, where they destroyed Manchester City by 0-3 at home in the first leg. They scored all three goals by the 31st minute and comfortably recorded a massive win. However, they will be hosted by City this coming Tuesday for the second leg, and they will look to hold on to that lead. As far as the Premier League is concerned, Liverpool came back from one goal to eventually defeat Crystal Palace by 2-1 on the road in their most recent match. They have now won three in a row in all competitions, scoring ten goals in the process, against just one conceded. Liverpool is currently sitting at the 3rd spot of the league table with 66 points, only two points ahead of Tottenham and two points behind Manchester United, with both these teams, have played one less match. Liverpool will also be having a handful of injury concerns ahead of this match, as Lallana, Matip, and Woodburn have been ruled out, while Can, Gomez, Klavan and more importantly Mohammed Salah are being listed as questionable to participate.

Liverpool at Everton Prediction 04/07/2018

Everton held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw on the road earlier in the season, but the two teams also met in the FA Cup, where Liverpool won by 1-2 at home. They have been the dominant force in this match-up, as their last defeat to Everton dates back to 2010 (8-0-8 since). Moreover, Liverpool has lost just once in this venue in over a decade. Liverpool is also in-between their Champions League matches against Manchester City, and that should be more of a priority than the Premier League right now. I think that the ground is ready for a match with goals from both sides.
