The Seattle Sounders are genuinely having a season to forget, as besides their struggles in the MLS they were also eliminated from the US Open Cup to a USL side. They will now look to turn their season around when they will play host to another struggling side on Saturday, DC United. DC United also struggled in the US Open Cup but eventually managed to defeat North Carolina in the penalty shoot-out, as opposed to the Sounders who lost in the extra time.

The Seattle Sounders (2-7-2) are not new to poor starts in the season, as they pretty much did the same in the last two. However, in both those seasons, there was a turning point. A point where the Sounders got their heads back together and started looking like a normal team. This season they look uninspired, especially in the offensive end. Prior to that elimination to the Sacramento Republic, the Sounders had three consecutive losses in the MLS without even scoring a single goal. They are still stuck at the bottom of the Western Conference with 8 points, featuring by far the worst offense in the MLS. They have scored just seven goals, half of what the 2nd worst offense has scored. Oddly enough, they also have the 2nd best defense with only 14 conceded. They have been equally bad at home so far (1-3-1), where they have scored only three goals, against four conceded. They will be missing the injured Morris and Svensson who is on international duty, while Lodeiro and Alonso are still being listed as doubtful to participate.

On the other hand, DC United (2-5-3) have also encountered similar problems to the Sounders so far, as they are sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with just 9 points after ten matches. Despite their struggles in the MLS, DC United are coming off a positive result in the 4th round of the US Open Cup. They played host to USL side North Carolina on Tuesday, and after a getting equalized at the 83rd minute the match went to extra time and eventually to the penalty shoot-out. DC United was a luckier (4-3) and eventually moved to the next round. Their schedule has been pretty brutal so far, as they have played 8 of their ten matches on the road (1-5-2). They will also have a handful of injury concerns in this match, as Segura has been ruled out, while Canouse, Kemp, and Odoi-Atsem are still being listed as doubtful.
