Schalke (15-7-7) suffered a frustrating loss last week against Hamburg on the road, in a match where they took an early lead at the 9th minute. However, that didn't last long, as their opponents pulled even at the 17th minute, and overturned the lead with another goal at the 52nd minute. It was Schalke's turn to pull even at the 63rd minute, but they conceded a late goal at the 84th minute, to meet a final 2-3 loss. However, they had won each of their previous six matches and had kept clean sheets in each of their last five. Schalke are still sitting at the 2nd spot of the Bundesliga with 52 points, but they are now just a single point ahead of their upcoming opponents. Schalke have been great at home so far (8-2-4), where they have lost only one of their last 14 matches in all competitions. Even so, Schalke will have a ton of injury concerns in this match, as Harit and Nastasic have been ruled out, while Embolo, Baba, Ozcipka, and Teuchert are questionable.

On the other hand, Dortmund (14-6-9) had a straightforward job last week against the visiting Stuttgart, whom they defeated by 0-3 at home. They were excellent in the first half, where they also took the lead at the 38th. It was a slightly balanced second half, but Dortmund doubled their lead at the 48th and sealed the three points with a third goal at the 59th minute. That win provided a significant morale boost to the team, as they bounced right back after that destructive 0-6 loss to Bayern Munich the week before. Dortmund is now sitting at the 3rd spot of the Bundesliga with 51 points, and are just a single point behind Schalke, and three ahead of Bayer Leverkusen. They have been quite hard to beat on the road (6-3-5), but they have failed to win any of their last four in all competitions (0-2-2). Dortmund will also have a full injury report, as Rode has been ruled out, while Schurrle, Kagawa, Zagadou, Guerreiro, Durm, and Akanji are all being listed as doubtful to participate.
