Roma (20-7-7) stayed competitive for just half an hour against Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, but things took a turn for the worse. In any case, before the second leg at home, they will play host to a desperate Chievo side. Roma is now sitting at the 3rd spot of the Serie A with 67 points, just as many as the 4th Lazio, while both teams are just one point ahead of the 5th Inter Milan. Roma can drop as low as 5th if results go against them, but only the top four spots lead to the Champions League next season. Roma needs to stay competitive, but they also have the second leg of the semi-finals just a few days later.

On the other hand, Chievo (7-17-10) are coming into this match after a hard-fought game against the visiting Inter Milan but failed to grab any points in the 2-1 loss. After a goal-less first half, their opponents took the lead at the 50th minute and doubled that just 11 minutes later. All Chievo managed to do was score a consolation goal at the 90th minute of the match, which eventually didn't change anything. Chievo is now winless in their last five (0-2-3), and have overall won twice since November. It is no wonder they are just two points ahead of the relegation zone, as they are sitting at the 16th spot with 31 points. This game will be Chievo's hardest match of the remaining four before the season ends. They will play their most crucial game against Crotone who has just as many points the coming week, and they also have a match against the already relegated Benevento. A point here would be very much welcome though, as Chievo will try to take advantage of Roma's Champions League distractions.
