Roma is coming off quite a slap in the face earlier in the week, when they fell by a harsh 2-5 on the road against Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Champions League. They did sneak in a couple of late goals to give them just a little bit of hope ahead of the second leg next week, but repeating just what they did against Barcelona might be too much to ask here. In any case, they did it before, and maybe they can do it again. However, before that happens, Roma will play host to Chievo on Saturday, in the 35th Match-day of the Italian Serie A. Roma also have to battle to give to stay 3rd, while Chievo has a battle of their own to fight, as they are just two points ahead of the relegation zone.

Roma (20-7-7) stayed competitive for just half an hour against Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, but things took a turn for the worse. Roma was ripped apart by Mohamed Salah, who scored two goals and assisted two more, while Firmino scored two more and Mane scored once. Roma found themselves down by 0-5 at the 69th minute, but even then they didn't back down. Dzeko scored what looked like a consolation goal at the 81st minute, but Roma was awarded a penalty kick at the 85th minute, and Perotti wrote the final 2-5. That gives Roma just a glimmer of hope ahead of the second leg, but they will have to do it as they did against Barcelona, win by at least 0-3. In any case, before the second leg at home, they will play host to a desperate Chievo side. Roma is now sitting at the 3rd spot of the Serie A with 67 points, just as many as the 4th Lazio, while both teams are just one point ahead of the 5th Inter Milan. Roma can drop as low as 5th if results go against them, but only the top four spots lead to the Champions League next season. Roma needs to stay competitive, but they also have the second leg of the semi-finals just a few days later.

On the other hand, Chievo (7-17-10) are coming into this match after a hard-fought game against the visiting Inter Milan but failed to grab any points in the 2-1 loss. After a goal-less first half, their opponents took the lead at the 50th minute and doubled that just 11 minutes later. All Chievo managed to do was score a consolation goal at the 90th minute of the match, which eventually didn't change anything. Chievo is now winless in their last five (0-2-3), and have overall won twice since November. It is no wonder they are just two points ahead of the relegation zone, as they are sitting at the 16th spot with 31 points. This game will be Chievo's hardest match of the remaining four before the season ends. They will play their most crucial game against Crotone who has just as many points the coming week, and they also have a match against the already relegated Benevento. A point here would be very much welcome though, as Chievo will try to take advantage of Roma's Champions League distractions.

Chievo at Roma Prediction 04/28/2018

Chievo held out for a goalless draw when they hosted Roma earlier in the season, but they haven't recorded a single win against them in the last five years (0-6-2). Moreover, Chievo has won once in this venue in the past 15 years (1-9-3), and have lost each of the last four. However, they are now in self-defense mode, as they are looking to avoid the relegation, so they should be extra competitive. Roma is stuck between a rock and a hard place; they need to juggle both their Champions League and their Serie A duties at once. Chievo might not have been very good in this venue over the years, but they might play massive defense in order to try to steal a point here.
