Vegas at Washington Game Overview

An early 1-0 series lead following a wild 6-4 victory in Game 1 as -152 home favorites has quickly turned into a 2-1 series deficit for the Golden Knights following Saturday’s 3-1 loss as +116 road underdogs. Vegas had only lost three times through its first 15 postseason games, and it had not lost back-to-back contests since early April in the tail-end of the regular season. The total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in seven of their last nine outings.

Vegas had the early 1-0 lead at home in Game 2 with James Neal's first-period goal, but since that point, it has been outscored 6-2 in this series. The Golden Knights gave up two second period goals in Saturday’s loss before Tomas Nosek ended the scoring drought with an early third period goal that cut that lead in half. That was all the scoring Vegas could muster on the night with a total of 22 shots on goal. Marc-Andre Fleury faced 26 shots at the other end of the ice, and he surrendered three goals. His goals-against average in the playoffs is still an impressive 1.95.

The Capitals have had their issues winning at home in the playoffs with a 5-5 record at Capital One Arena this postseason. Overall, they are now 14-8 in the postseason following the last two wins in this series. This includes victories against Columbus and Pittsburgh in six-game series before needing the full seven games to get past Tampa Bay in the conference finals. The total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in nine of Washington’s last 11 games.

Washington got a pair of goals from its top two scorers in Game 3 with left winger Alex Ovechkin netting his 14th goal of the playoffs early in the second period followed by Evgeny Kuznetsov’s 12th playoff goal later in that same stanza. Ovechkin gave his team 2-1 lead in Game 2 that it never relinquished with a power-play goal in the second period. After making a few "circus saves" to preserve the win on the road in Game 2, Washington goalie Braden Holtby came up big again on Saturday night at home. His GAA in the postseason stands at 2.13.

Vegas at Washington Prediction 06/04/2018

The total has closed at 5.5 goals in the first three games of this series, and it has been set at that same betting line for Monday night's contest. I think both starting goalies in this series have settled into form heading into Game 4 and each team's defense has done an excellent job at limiting scoring chances over the past two games. My lean would be towards Vegas evening this series at two games apiece, but I am sticking with the UNDER as my ‘best bet’ for Monday night.
