A big NFC matchup on Thursday night has the Vikings traveling to Philadelphia to take on THe Eagles. The host Eagles are a 7.5 favorite for this match. Zank breaks it down and gives out his top bet.

Reigning NFC division champions meet when the Eagles host the Vikings for this week’s edition of Thursday night football.

Philadelphia opened defense of its conference title with a quality road win at New England. On the other end of the rope, Minnesota, after winning all those close games last season, opened its season by losing a close one to Tampa Bay.

How are we playing this game with our free Vikings/Eagles pick?

NFL Betting Lines

The Week 2 NFL betting odds opened Philadelphia at -7.5 over Minnesota, with an over/under of right around 48. Early betting action then dipped that spread to -7, and that total to 47.

Vikings-Eagles NFL Betting Preview

Minnesota opened its season Sunday with a disappointing 20-17 home loss to Tampa Bay. The Vikings, favored by four points, trailed 3-0 early, led 10-3, then took a 10-10 tie into halftime. But Minnesota never led from there. Down by a field goal late, the Vikings let the Buccaneers, quarterbacked by journeyman Baker Mayfield, run the last four minutes off the clock.

Minnesota also cost some of us a four-team parlay.

The Vikings out-gained Tampa 369-242 but lost the turnover battle 3-0, resulting in at least a -9 points differential.

The Vikings played 13-4 last season, with 11 wins by eight points or less, five by exactly three points, and two in overtime. But that kind of luck doesn’t last for long in the NFL.

Philadelphia, on the other hand, opened its season with a 25-20 victory at New England on Sunday. The Eagles used two early takeaways to take a 16-0 lead but allowed the Patriots to get within 16-14 at the half. Philly then scored the first nine points of the second half and held on from there for the W and the money at -3.5.

The Eagles actually got out-gained by New England 382-251 but won the turnover battle 2-1, creating a +14 points differential.

Philly is coming off a 14-3 season that saw them get within a quarter of winning the Super Bowl. This year, the Eagles are playing against a Season wins over/under of 11.5, which was tied with Cincinnati and Kansas City for the highest on the board.

Vikings-Eagles Recent History

These teams have met five times over the last eight seasons, including once in the playoffs, Philadelphia going 3-2 both SU and ATS. In the only meeting between quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Kirk Cousins, back in Week 2 of last season, the Eagles won 24-7 and covered at -3.

Philadelphia out-gained Minnesota that day 486-264.

Also, that game played way under a total of 49, as neither team scored in the second half.

NFL Betting Trends

NFL home teams played just 6-10 SU and 4-12 ATS last week.

NFL favorites played 8-8 SU and 6-10 ATS last week.

Totals Report

  • The overs played 11-6 in Vikings games last season, but last week’s game against Tampa played under a total of 45.

  • The unders played 12-4 in the NFL last week.

Vikings at Eagles Free NFL Betting Pick

Philadelphia owns the better QB, the better running game, and the better defense. Also, the Eagles totally outplayed Minnesota in their meeting last season, and from what we can tell, not much has changed since. We like Philly for Thursday night, minus the points.
