It’s probably the game of the year in the NFC East when the Dallas Cowboys battle the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night at JerryWorld.

Dallas trails Philadelphia by one game in the NFC playoff standings and lost to the Eagles back in October. So, if they want to retain any chance of claiming the best record in the NFC, the Cowboys need a win Sunday night.

NFL Betting Odds

The Week 14 NFL betting market opened with Dallas at -3.5 for Sunday night, with an over/under of right around 52. Both numbers were holding steady through most of the week.

Eagles-Cowboys Betting Preview

Following five straight wins, including several gutsy efforts against some good teams, Philadelphia just ran out of gas last week and lost at home to San Francisco 42-19. The Eagles scored the first six points of the game but trailed 14-6 at the half, then let things slip away from there against a hot 49ers outfit.

Philadelphia gave up 456 yards of San Francisco offense, including 146 on the ground. So the Eagles have been out-gained by each of their last five opponents.

Philadelphia’s five-game winning streak started with a victory over AFC East-leading Miami, followed by wins over Washington, this Dallas team, AFC West-leading Kansas City, and Buffalo. But the Eagles had to come from behind to win four of those games.

So it looked like Football Karma caught up to Philadelphia last week.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys ride a four-game winning streak into Sunday night after rallying to beat Seattle last Thursday 41-35. Dallas, favored by 9.5 points, trailed the Seahawks 35-27 early in the fourth quarter. But the Cowboys scored the last 14 points to avoid the upset.

Dallas produced 406 yards of total offense but allowed 411 yards of Seattle offense, including 136 on the ground, as the Cowboys' defense gave its poorest performance since the loss to the 49ers back in Week 5.

Two games ago, Dallas beat Washington 45-10. Three games ago, the Cowboys beat Carolina 33-10. Four games ago, they beat the Giants 49-17. That’s an average score of 42-12, albeit against three iffy outfits.

Big-picture, at 10-2 overall, Philadelphia owns the best record in the NFC, one game better than the Cowboys, 49ers, and Lions, all at 9-3. But the Eagles already own a win over Dallas, as does San Francisco.

Let’s just say both teams need to win Sunday to stay in the hunt for the No. 1 seed for the upcoming NFC playoffs.

Common Opponents

These two teams have played five common opponents this season; the 49ers, Commanders, Patriots, Rams, and Jets. Dallas played those foes to 4-1 both SU and ATS and +46 yards per game, Philadelphia to 4-2 SU, 2-3-1 ATS, and just +1 YPG.

Eagles-Cowboys Recent History

Philadelphia is 2-1 SU and ATS over the last three meetings with Dallas. Last year, these teams split their season series, each winning on their home field. The Eagles then won the first meeting between these teams this season back in November 28-23.

Dallas reached the Philadelphia 6-yard line in the waning moments of that game but came up empty.

The Cowboys out-gained the Eagles that day 406-292 but let three good scoring opportunities slip away.

NFL Betting Trends

Dallas is 14-0 SU, 11-3 ATS over its last 14 home games.

The home team is 9-1, both SU and ATS, over the last ten meetings between these teams.

Totals Report

The Overs are 7-5 in Eagles games this season, averaging 51 total points.

The Overs are 8-4 in Cowboys games this season, also averaging 51 points.

While Overs prevailed 9-4 in the NFL last week, the season trend leans towards Unders at 109-84.

Philadelphia vs Dallas Free Betting Pick

Philadelphia is coming off a poor performance last time out, albeit against a darn good team. Normally, we would consider the Eagles good candidates for a bounce-back effort next time out. However, we have some concerns about this team, such as its ability to run the ball without the quarterback and on defense.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys rank 5th in the League in total offense and, even with last week’s numbers, 3rd in total defense. Also, Dallas owns the better performance against common opponents, and they basically out-played the Eagles five weeks ago. We like the Cowboys for Sunday night.
